Alpe de Veglia - Simplon Dorf

This sixth stage marks the return to Switzerland. You will cross the Passo dei Gialitt and pass through the last Italian mountain pastures of "Camoscella" and "Vallescia". After the Swiss mountain pastures of "Alpjerung" and "Corvetsch", you will descend towards the Simplon Pass road and rejoin the Stockeralper Weg at Alter Kaserne. This beautiful trail will take you to Gabi and then Simplon Dorf.

Description of the walk

The starting point for this stage is at the Rifugio Citta di Arona on Alpe de Veglia

(S) From the Rifugio Citta di Arona, head south to join the Sentiero F10.

Markings: Sentiero F10 - Red-White-Red markings

(1) Follow the F10 to a fork in the path.

(2) Leave the F10 and take the Sentiero F97 on the right. Begin to climb a little and you will come to another junction.

(3) Take the left-hand path to stay on the F97 and continue to the hamlet of Le Balmette (a few houses).

(4) Stay on the F97 until the next fork.

(5) Leave the F97, which leads to Passo delle Posette. Turn right towards the south onto Sentiero F32 to climb Passo dei Gialitt.

(6) Still on Sentiero F32, begin the descent towards Alpe Camoscella.

(7) At Alpe de Camoscella, the trail splits in two. Heading southeast, take trail F32b to return to Alpe Vallescia, the last Italian mountain pasture.

(8) Shortly after Alpe Vallescia, enter Swiss territory and walk to the first Swiss mountain pasture, Alpe de Corwetsch, a former mountain pasture that has been converted into accommodation.

(9) Pass the building and turn right onto the Apjenweg. Begin the long descent to a crossroads in Egga

(10) Continue towards the Simplon Pass road to Alte Kaserne. Cross the road carefully, then take the footbridge over the Diveria to find a sign with sticker No. 90.

(11) On the Stockalper Weg, return to the hamlet of Gabi. Cross the Lagina stream and look for a multi-directional sign.

(12) Follow the sign for Simplon Dorf, joining the Simplon Pass road. Cross it carefully and continue on the Stockalper Weg until you reach a junction. Pass under the Simplon Pass road, then quickly rejoin Simplonstrasse, which leads to the village. After a bend, pass the Fletcshhorn hotel. Take Alte Simplonstrasse to reach the Hotel Restaurant Post, where you will spend the night (E).
