Head to Baumgarten Abbey in Bernardvillé. Coming from the Alsace plain, you'll find it right at the entrance to the village on the left. Don't park along the vineyards, but a little further away.
(S/E) Take the path marked with a red ring opposite the old abbey chapel, which is outside the buildings. It climbs gently between the rows of vines. At the end of the vines, leave the red ring markings, which descend at a 90° angle to the right, and continue on the path that goes straight ahead along the edge of the forest and at the bottom of the valley.
(1) When you reach the junction with the RD 253, take a hairpin turn to your right onto an unmarked but clearly identifiable path that will take you up to the forest road and then to the water treatment plant.
(2) From there, follow the paved road down to Reichsfeld. There are some beautiful properties here with great views of the valley.
(3) On the descent, don't miss the small path on the left, marked with a red-white-red rectangle. It will take you to the bottom of the valley.
(4) Going back up the other side, leave the red-white-red rectangle markings and take the first farm track that climbs up on your left.
(5) You will arrive at the Oratoire Saint-Urbain, where you will have a superb view of the vineyards of Reichsfeld and Bernardvillé.
Descend to Reichsfeld and pass the town hall, church and cemetery.
(6) At the exit, continue through the vineyards to Bernardvillé and arrive near the cemetery.
(7) From there, descend to the right until you reach the entrance to the village, where you will find the small road that leads to Baumgarten Abbey (S/E).
