A short route around Legis and Leeden Tor

An easy moorland route, which starts at a popular roadside layby. Venturing onto the moors and following a well-used route down to the old disused railway line, following it to a bridge. At the bridge, the route then climbs up to a tor cluster before descending past a Stone Age Settlement to the start.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the start >>> heading north west across the moorland, down a well-used route, the vegetation in the area will show the way.

(1) Meeting up with the old railway track, turn right and continue along the track, and stay on the track. It will lead around Ingra Tor, on the right, crossing over a bridge. On the right, a small disused quarry.

(2)Ingra Tor Halt, and an old stop for the train, continue along the track, which now heads east to the Rail bridge

(3) The route turns right, and in a southerly direction up the hill, it will follow another well-trodden route.

(4) Leeden Tor, head south across the top of the tor, reaching the second outcrop of the tor. The western slope has a lot of clitter, the Stone Age Settlement is on the right. The route down to the start is best followed by one of the well-trodden routes; the route will be narrower, off track, and there are some concealed shallow pits. Continue down to the start. (S/E)
