Discovering Saint-Jean-d'Aulps

Set off to explore the village of Saint-Jean-d'Aulps. With its narrow streets and lanes, paths and trails along the river and through the hamlets, you will enjoy the peace and quiet of this family walk. Things to see along the way: Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church, Aulps Abbey, Pont de la Tassonnière bridge, etc. Warning: this route crosses the D902, which is always very dangerous and requires great care.

Description of the walk

Departure from the Tourist Office in Saint-Jean-d'Aulps. Parking available nearby.

(S/E) Follow the RD902 towards Morzine until the second crossroads at the southern end of the village.

(1) Just before the campsite, take the road that descends to the right towards Sous Saint-Jean. Cross the bridge over the Dranse de Morzine and arrive at a crossroads.

(2) Turn right, passing the Ranch des Portes du Soleil. Cross another intersection.

(3) Take the left-hand path, which climbs more steeply and is further from the river. Follow the path to the end.

(4) Turn left onto the road that climbs uphill, then right onto the D293 at the new intersection. Turn left again about 50 metres further on. The route then crosses the hamlet via a road. Cross the Ruisseau du Jourdil and you will reach another intersection. This time, turn right and continue straight ahead as you leave the hamlet, heading towards Le Biot. The route crosses the hamlet of Solfélery via a road that quickly turns into a path.

(5) Continue along this path, following the Dranse de Morzine, pass under the Pont de la Tassonnière bridge and arrive at a fork.

(6) Take the path on the left which goes back up towards the road. Continue left, cross the Pont de la Tassonnière and head towards Bas Thex and Le Biot. The walk crosses the bridge, skirts the RD902 and continues left before rejoining it.

(7) Cross the RD902 with great caution and at a fast pace: this is a very busy road where traffic is generally fast. Take the small road opposite that climbs towards Bas Thex and joins the Route de la Ficle: the Bas Thex Chapel is about a hundred metres on the left.

(8) Turn right towards Saint-Jean-d'Aulps. Keep going until you see the Abbaye d'Aulps and its visitor centre.

(9) After passing the abbey, continue along the road that leads to the centre of Saint-Jean-d'Aulps via the hamlet of L'Abbaye and rejoin the RD902. Continue left towards Morzine until you reach the Tourist Office and the car park (S/E).
