West of the Combe de Lourmarin, between Bonnieux and Lourmarin

An easy walk, partly through woodland and with unobstructed views of the hills of the Grand and Petit Luberon. Only the descent from the “Vallon des Bourras” marker requires some caution: the path is very well marked but the stones are a bit loose. The Aigue Brun ford at the start and finish is not deep and is very shallow, but it can be wide during periods of high water.

Description of the walk

Park opposite the entrance to the Espeil quarry or next to the entrance, taking care to leave the access to the quarry clear.

(S/E) Head west along the wide path that crosses the Aigue Brun via a ford. The gradient is steady. Pass two cisterns. Please respect the no-entry signs on private property and continue to a fork

(1) Continue straight on along the road, which is tarmac from the electricity substation onwards and is marked with yellow signs (PR®) for “Le Gest”. Continue to the “La Chambarelle” signpost.

(2) Follow this track to the left through woodland consisting mainly of holm oaks, which descends gently and runs alongside the hamlet of La Chambarelle without straying from the path.

(3) After the buildings, turn right uphill into the woodland, which quickly opens out, following the yellow markings, and arrive at a junction of several paths near a cistern.

(4) Turn slightly left onto the wide track, continuing to climb (very open view), and follow it along the hillside to the sign for “Vallon des Bourras”

(5) Take the small path that descends quite steeply to the left (yellow markings) to the stream, which is usually dry. Turn left into the stream bed for just a few steps to cross it.

(6) Look for the path almost directly opposite and head straight back up, following the yellow markings to the Route du Gest.

(1) Turn right and follow this road in the opposite direction to the way out until you reach the car park (S/E).
