Description of the walk

This hike offers some impressive elevation gains (both positive and negative)!
It all starts at the Bois refuge in Champagny-le-Haut.

(S) Head towards the stream and cross the bridge.
Take the path on the right. After 100 metres, continue straight ahead, do not take the path that climbs towards Plan des Gouilles. Follow the stream to the reservoir. Continue straight ahead, the path enters the forest and begins to climb.
Shortly afterwards, you will come to a path descending from the left.

(1). Continue to the right, ignoring the two paths that branch off to the right further on. Continue climbing to Enclos du Seil.

(2) When you reach another crossroads, turn left onto the path that climbs quite steeply in zigzags. Ignore the path on the left leading to the Meribel chalets and finish the climb to the Tour du Merle.

(3) Begin the descent down a slope that gradually levels out until you reach the hamlet of Plan Fournier.

(4) Follow the small road for a short while, then take the path on the left, which overlooks it. You will cross it at the next bend. Continue in this way until you reach the Fontaine Froide stream.

(5) Cross it. Continue straight ahead, then take the steep, zigzagging path on the left, which leads to the Grand Bec refuge.

(6). Climb a little further and go around a cirque of stones to descend towards the Col de Leschaux.

(7). From there, follow the path that descends steeply towards Pralognan, with a 1,100-metre drop. You can see the village clearly from up here. Continue on to the hamlet of Les Darbelay.

(8) Take the southbound trail that goes around Mont Bochor to reach Pralognan (E).

Some information about the section described here, even though we changed the stages during our route.

The climb up to the Tour de Merle is through forest, and its only advantage is that it is shaded. The same goes for the descent to Plan Fournier, which is not particularly interesting.
The climb to the Grand Bec refuge is long and in full sun, but without any technical difficulties. From the refuge, you'll find yourself back in a mountain environment. The rest of the route to the Col de Leschaux is magnificent.
Note that access to the pass without crampons can be difficult in case of snow/snowfields at the beginning of the season (check beforehand).

The stage presented here seems very long and physically difficult to me. Personally, we preferred to extend the previous day's stage (we bivouacked at the Grand Bec refuge) to get ahead, and in hindsight I think it was a very good idea.

Hello,

If you have any photos, please feel free to add them to the hike. This is a route I did before the era of digital photography, so I didn't have many photos to add to this route.

Thank you!

We chose this stage for its geographical location and because it suited our desire for a two-day hike starting from Champagny, allowing us to break away from the traditional Grande Casse circular route, which we had already explored.
Setting off from Le Planay, we enjoyed the climb through the woods and appreciated the stormy but exhilarating arrival at the refuge...
We received a warm and friendly welcome and shared a simple and tasty dinner with our hosts in a breathtaking setting.
We will cherish fond memories of this hike and the sublime image of a double rainbow that perfectly summed up this stage... truly enchanting!
