Description of the walk

Car park in the hamlet of Laisonnay d'en Bas.
(S/E) From the car park, continue along the road for 200 metres towards the hamlet of Laisonnay d'en Haut.

(1) Take the path that climbs left towards the impressive Py waterfall. Several switchbacks make it easy to climb the steep slope of the Couloir Noir on the left bank of the Ruisseau du Py. The slope levels out and you reach a narrow plateau dominated by the Couloirs du Mollard, the Arête du Mollard and the Roche de Blamont (2,580m). The path continues along the left bank of the Ruisseau du Py at a stone bridge (sign - chalet).

(2) Cross the stream. The valley widens and the trail continues through alpine meadows populated by numerous ibex before reaching the Refuge de Plaisance (2160m).

(3) After the refuge, continue to the right along the path towards Col de Plan Séry. At around 2480m, cross Plan Séry before arriving at Col de Plan Séry itself (2609m).

(4) Continue towards Rosuel (north-east), losing a few hundred metres in altitude.

(5) At the crossroads at an altitude of 2,320 metres, follow the path that branches off to the right. This east-facing balcony overlooks Lac de la Plagne, passes north of Aiguille de Bacque and then crosses a scree slope.

(6) Then join theGR®5(red and white markings) and follow it to the right, heading south, leaving several paths on either side to reach Lac de Grattaleu (2,512m).

(7) After the lake, follow the path on the left and, with one last effort, reach the Col du Palet (2,652 m).

(8) Leave the Col du Palet by turning right towards the south-west to reach the Col de la Croix des Frêtes (2,647 m).

(9) From here (and throughout the descent), you will have views of the Grande Casse, the Aiguille de l'Épéna, the Pointe de la Grande Glière, etc. From the Col de la Croix des Frêtes, continue along a small path heading south-west, which passes by the Lac du Grand Plan (2,480 m).

(10) Continue along the same path to the south-west before joining the track near the Chalet des Gardes (2,289 m).

(11) Follow the west-southwest track and leave the Chalet du Plan du Sel on your right. At a right-hand bend, leave the track on the left and take a winding path. At a hairpin bend in the track, turn left (east). Cross the track again and descend to Lac de la Glière (chapel).

(12) From the lake, head west to the Refuge de la Glière and rejoin the track. Follow the track, cutting across a few bends in places, and head to the Refuge du Laisonnay.

(13) Continue to the Laisonnay d'en Haut crossroads.

(1) Turn left and arrive at Laisonnay d'en Bas (S/E).

3-day hike
Day 1 – climb from Laisonay d'En Bas to the Plaisance refuge; a very steep climb, but we had the whole day!
Day 2 - heading for the Col du Palet via the Col de Plan Séry (edelweiss, different species of gentian, etc.)
The descent from Lac de La Plagne is quite difficult and the climb back up to Col du Palet seemed endless
But we took the time to take some beautiful photos, see some big marmots, and the arrival at Lac de Gratalu with its cotton grass was a wonderful reward. We received a warm welcome at the Col de Palet with some delicious, invigorating soup.
Day 3 - Descent from the Col de Palet to Laisonnay - beautiful herds of cows in the mountain pastures and, above all, panoramic views of all the glaciers
especially the Grande Casse - a slightly optimistic descent time at the start of the pass!
Passing by the Glières refuge with its dried-up lake.
We didn't set any speed records because we took our time, but for septuagenarians we are very satisfied - in short, a very, very beautiful route.

We did this hike over two days with a night at the Col du Palet refuge: it's quite intense, especially when you take the time to admire the magnificent scenery and watch the marmots.

A magnificent hike, a very warm welcome at the refuge between the lakes where we spent the night, return via the Col de Grassaz among the many marmots, and lunch at the Refuge de Laisonnay on arrival.

Hike completed by two people in bivouac mode in tents. Over 4 days.

From Lyon.
Day 1: Road trip and climb to the Plaisance refuge. Evening bivouac at Plaisance.
Day 2 – Variation on the proposed route. Ascent of Pointe de la Vallaisonnay, starting from Plaisance.
Off-trail, using the IGN 1:25,000 map. Information obtained from the refuge warden. Evening bivouac at Plaisance.
Day 3: Plaisance refuge - Col du Palet. Evening bivouac on the other side of the pass, outside the Vanoise National Park.
Day 4 - Descent from the Col du Palet to Laisonnay d'en Haut. Road trip to Lyon.
This way, we really have time to soak up the surroundings and landscapes and learn about the flora and fauna.

I did this hike last year, but over two days, with a stop at the Palet refuge (booked in March).
Everything is really beautiful. We saw chamois above Lac de la Plagne and lots of marmots.
Taking our time allowed us to take a little detour along a fairly steep and very rocky path to the Col de la Tourne above Tignes, returning to the Col du Palet via a pleasant path along the ridge. From the Col du Palet, we also climbed to the Pointe du Chardonnet (Edelweiss). It was already a good first day.
The next day, we passed through the Col de la Grassaz, which offers a magnificent view of the north face of the Grande Motte, Grande Casse, Epena, Petite and Grande Glière, the Troquairou glacier and Grand Bec.
On the way down, you can picnic facing the glaciers and even buy Beaufort d'alpage cheese at Plan du Sél when the shepherds have finished their siesta. It's true that they work long days!
I think it's a bit of a shame to do this hike in a single day.

Very beautiful hike
The view of the north faces of the Grande Casse and Grande Motte is fantastic
Staying overnight at the Plaisance refuge makes it much less difficult, with 600 metres and 1 hour 40 minutes less to cover, leaving only 823 metres over 20 kilometres, or 8 hours of leisurely walking while observing marmots and ibex.
Enjoyable picnic at Lac du Grand Plan
The Col du Palet was the only refuge still open, and it was crowded.

A hike with no technical difficulties other than its length. It took us just over 10 hours to complete the circular, including a one-hour break.
Magnificent scenery.
While the ascent times are realistic, the various descent times indicated on the signs are unrealistic. I agree with ratapopoulos.
Note that it is possible to shorten the hike: at Col du Palet, head towards Col de la Grattaz. The start of the race is not easy to find.

A very beautiful walk, but the Palet refuge was crowded at this time of year. Excellent welcome. Discreet but very effective signposting.
However, it should be noted that the sign at the Col du Palet indicating the return to Laisonnay gives a walking time of 2½ hours... It took us 4½ hours... I suppose you have to run very fast to keep to that schedule... Impossible to do at my age of 70!

My assessment only covers half of the route (up to the Col du Palet). This hike, which can be completed in a single day, can be considered difficult due to its length and elevation gain. However, it can be split into two or three days, staying overnight in the Plaisance and Palet mountain huts. This makes it suitable even for children. For me, hiking is not a sporting achievement but an opportunity to admire the landscape, the flowers and the animals. I take my time and take photos (Martagon lilies, edelweiss, gentians, marmots, ibex, the waterfall and the lakes, etc.).
After the Col du Palet, we descended towards Tignes to tour the Grande Casse glaciers, all in six days.
