Starting from Bort-les-Orgues, this route will introduce you to the charms of the Bort-Artense region and treat you to panoramic views spanning over 180°. It all begins with a view of the dam, followed by the Monts du Sancy, and then the Bort plateau with its breathtaking vista. On the way back down, you can admire the views of the Cantal and the Sumène. Whilst there is certainly a significant elevation gain, you’ll still enjoy this walk, which is sure to leave a lasting impression. What’s more, much of the route is shaded, ensuring you can enjoy this outing in the best possible conditions.

From the Panorama des Orgues, take a stroll through the woodland and at the foot of the Orgues de Bort. Lovely panoramic views of the Massif Central mountains (Sancy, Monts du Cantal, Chastel Marlhac Plateau) and overlooking the town of Bort-les-Orgues.

From the centre of Bort-les-Orgues, make your way to Château de Val by following the shores of the lake and the River Dordogne. Admire the dam from its base and then from the promontory on the left bank. Pass by the lovely Siauve beach. You can enjoy magnificent views of Château de Val along the lake.

Via the Green Trail, you can admire the Orgues de Bort towering above you and head to the Saut de la Saule on the River Rhue. On the way back, you’ll head to the Ballastière Lake, situated at the confluence of the Rhue and the Dordogne, and walk alongside the Plantade housing estate, built during the construction of the dam. You’ll then return to the town centre, finishing at Place Marmontel.

From the centre of Bort-les-Orgues, head to the Croix de la Bastide to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view. Continue via Verninières and Puy Morel, passing alongside the peat bogs, and arrive at the waterfall near the Saut de la Saule site. Return via the Piste Verte, with a lovely view of the Orgues.
