Description

Start the plot by indicating the starting point. If you know the exact car parking situation, please explain how to park.
If we can access the starting point with public transports, please explain the lines to use and share any useful informations.

(S) From here, describe the instructions to follow from the starting point.

Add waypoints by clicking on the map.

The plot has to end by the location where the walk finishes. If it is a loop please write (S/E) at the end of the description. If it is a one way route write (E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 253 m
  2. 1 : km 0.07 - alt. 255 m - From the offroad/roadside parking take an obvious grassy track that roughly follows the direction of the beck upstream.
  3. 2 : km 0.67 - alt. 315 m - Follow the obvious grassy track uphill
  4. 3 : km 2.02 - alt. 617 m - On reaching the rocky Carrock fell summit take the vague track that goes up through the rocks to the summit cairn.
  5. 4 : km 2.25 - alt. 657 m - Descend on the same track used for ascent to the summit. Follow an obvious grassy/boggy track westwards.
  6. 5 : km 2.87 - alt. 599 m - You may need to divert off the track for 50 metres or so to tick Round Knott. Once ticked, return and continue to the westward bound track.
  7. 6 : km 3.56 - alt. 602 m - Continue westwards on the grassy track past the cairn of Milton Hill.
  8. 7 : km 4.47 - alt. 593 m - Branch away from the main track on a grassy track heading for Drygill Head. I found I had to divert off this track after a while to get to the summit. You may want to use a gps to locate the actual summit.
  9. 8 : km 4.8 - alt. 620 m - Head north westwards towards Hare Stones. I did find a track for a while but you may end up walking over trackless fell.
  10. 9 : km 5.15 - alt. 623 m - On reaching the wide and obvious Cumbria Way, turn left and head towards Lingy Hut.
  11. 10 : km 6.08 - alt. 571 m - Continue along the track past Lingy Hut.
  12. 11 : km 6.43 - alt. 560 m - Continue across the beck and then set a bearing across trackless fell to Coomb Height. There is a small cairn on Coomb Height.
  13. 12 : km 7.13 - alt. 623 m - Head westwards on a grassy track from Coomb Height. The track bends around to a northwest direction.
  14. 13 : km 8.09 - alt. 599 m - Cross a small beck and make a small ascent to Little Lingy Hill. It isn't much of a hill (more of an undulation). You may want to use a gps to confirm you've reached the top.
  15. 14 : km 8.36 - alt. 592 m - Follow a vague grassy/heathery path towards Miller Moss. Miller Moss has a visibly large cairn on it.
  16. 15 : km 8.84 - alt. 600 m - Follow an obvious grassy/heathery track eastwards.
  17. 16 : km 9.18 - alt. 582 m - At the gulley (on the left), take the grassy/heathery track to the right. This bends around towards Great Lingy Hill.
  18. 17 : km 9.45 - alt. 610 m - There is a small cairn on Great Lingy Hill. You may want to use a gps to find the exact summit.
  19. 18 : km 9.53 - alt. 610 m - Continue along the grassy/heathery track to Hare Stones. There is a small cairn on Hare Stones. You may want to use a gps to confirm the summit.
  20. 19 : km 10.18 - alt. 625 m - Head eastwards a short distance on to the obvious and wide Cumbrian Way. Follow this north westwards.
  21. 20 : km 10.42 - alt. 611 m - Branch away from the Cumbrian Way on an obvious track up to High Pike.
  22. 21 : km 10.97 - alt. 646 m - Follow a grassy track north eastwards to the mine shafts. A fence around one of the shafts is clearly visible.
  23. 22 : km 11.54 - alt. 567 m - Follow the grassy track that heads eastwards and keeps to the top of the fell (don't descend towards Carrock Beck).
  24. 23 : km 12.21 - alt. 507 m - Take a short diversion of the grassy track to go the very flat summit of West Fell. There is no cairn and you'll need a gps to confirm the exact summit.
  25. 24 : km 12.52 - alt. 501 m - Return to the eastwards bound grassy track. There are a number of grassy tracks around here. Choose one that heads down to where Carrock Beck crosses the road.
  26. 25 : km 14.34 - alt. 260 m - Cross the beck using the footbridge and return to the carpark.
  27. S/E : km 14.62 - alt. 253 m
