Tyne Trail

This section of the England Coast Path starts at St Mary's Lighthouse and follows the coast through Whitley Bay and Cullercoats finishing at Tynemouth Priory. The walk itself follows the cliff tops for some time and then the promenade. However for those requiring pavements, the first part of the walk can follow the road rather than the cliff tops. This walk can be done in either direction as a section of the England Coast Path (or as an out and back).

This section of the England Coast path takes in some amazing views of the Tyne from both the south and north banks. It begins at the historic Tynemouth Priory, follows the quays along North Shields, taking the ferry across to South Shields affording some great views back across the Tyne to Tynemouth Priory at the end of the walk.

This is the section of the Angel's Way one of the Northern Saints' pilgrimage routes which starts in Holywell and ends in Backworth. This section is rural passing through agricultural land.

This can be combined with the previous section (Seaton Sluice to Holywell) or the next section (Backworth to Killingworth) for a longer walk.

This section of the England Coast Path is deliberately short so that a visit to Seaton Delaval Hall can be included as well as a visit to St Mary's Lighthouse (tides permitting). The route passes the villages of Seaton Sluice, Hartley and Old Hartley along cliff tops.

Follow the "The Christian crossroads of the British Isles" from Seaton Sluice to Chester-le-Street and explore the heritage along the way. This route can be divided into sections in regard to your physical abilities.

This path is part of the Angel's Way, one of the Northern Saints' pilgrimage routes which starts in Seaton Sluice and end in Chester-le-Street. This section passes Seaton Delaval Hall, the Church of Our Lady, and the Holywell which gives the village its name.

This short, flat walk is easy to do with children. It can be broken up with activities, but be aware there are no railings on the north side of the pier.

This section starts in the busy seaside town of South Shields and winds along the cliff tops to Souter Lighthouse (National Trust). The section starts on the South Shields promenade and then follows a gravel footpath suitable for cycles, wheelchairs and pushchairs. This then turns to a narrower footpath at Marsden roundabout, however there is an alternative pavement along the road for those who need a flatter surface.The route then passes Marsden Grotto and final arrives at Souter Lighthouse.
