Description of the walk

From Remiremont, take the road to Gérardmer (D417). 6 km further on, at the roundabout (decorated with granite heads), turn right.
The route starts from the car-share car park in the commune of Le Syndicat.

(S/E) Set off along the footpath (heading east), passing in front of the town hall and under a bus shelter. Take the Impasse des Gémeaux, which climbs to the right of the Chemin de l’École, and further on, enter the forest. Further on, near a few houses on the right, the path reaches afirst junction.

(1) At the junction, turn left onto the path marked with a Red Triangle. About 40 m further on, leave the schoolchildren’s path on your left and continue straight ahead. The path heads east and reaches asecond junction.
Please note that some sections of the path do not appear on IGN maps.

(2) At this junction, turn left until you reach a three-way junction.

(3) Continue left along the wide path until you reach a few houses and then a tarmac road. At the junction, turn right and follow the tarmac road.
At the hairpin bend (rubbish bins), ignore the stony track branching off to the right and continue left; 50 metres further on, ignore the road climbing to the right and continue straight on until you reach a Stop sign.

(4) Bémont crossroads (the D417 is a few metres to the left), go up the tarmac road to the right (Green Triangle). Pass the Chemin des Rapailles on the right, then the Traverse de Plaine on the left, and continue to the right. At the first trees of the forest, take the wide stony path (Green Triangle) which climbs to the right. After about 150 m, you’ll reach a crossroads.

(5) Highest point of the route (500 m). Leave the Green Triangle markings and head down to the right, along the edge of the forest (Blue Ring markings), until you reach a tarmac road.
Pass between two lodges (lodges). At the small pond, turn left (Blue Ring) and head downhill to the next houses.
Turn left (Blue Ring) onto the path that climbs slightly. At the three-way junction, continue left on a gentle climb. The path gives way to a pleasant little track, lined with stones and occasionally featuring a few steps.
At the bottom of a steep descent, turn right and then left to come out onto a wide path at a right angle.

(6) Turn left and continue straight on for about 800 m until you reach a crossroads.
Leave the Chemin du Droit on your left and continue straight on. As you emerge from the forest (when you see the first houses), turn right and reach a magnificent viewpoint over the Moselotte valley.

(7) Continue and descend to a tarmac road. At the third hairpin bend, turn right onto the path that climbs up to a dead end. Turn left and walk downhill to the D43. Turn right onto the footpath. Walk past the town hall again and reach the car park (S/E).

A pleasant short hike, with a few paved roads but virtually no traffic. The rest of the route is along paths or small trails. The final stretch along the departmental road is separated from the road by an embankment, so there's no problem. It's also possible to return to point 1 via the town.

Hello.
I couldn’t find Level 3, so I retraced my steps to the rubbish bins and went straight on.
At level 6, at the three-way junction, if I’d turned left I’d have gone further away from where I started, so I retraced my steps and then followed the path all the way to the housing estate.
Thanks for this lovely walk.

Thank you very much for this lovely walk, which is accessible to everyone: there are a few steep hills to climb, but nothing insurmountable. Unlike what some other comments suggest, there is indeed a section on the road, but it’s within the village and there’s little or no traffic.
The least pleasant part is the final stretch along the main road, which has quite a lot of traffic. This inconvenience can be avoided by starting from the Town Hall car park and adjusting the route, both start and finish, to go through the centre of the village.
