From Schatzberg to Thierbach

(S/E) We start the hike at the Schatzbergbahn mountain station (the valley station in Auffach can be reached by bus or car) heading west and turn right after a few metres towards the north. The trail winds downhill. We turn right at the next opportunity.

(1) We come to a wide path, which we follow to the left. At the fork in the path, we keep left.

(2) Pass the Thalerkogel lift, leave the ski slopes behind and enjoy the view of the snow-covered mountain landscape of the Wildschönau.

(3) The path leads downhill into the forest. Take the next right, then the next right again. Follow the path around a left-hand bend. Take the next left, then the second left. The path winds its way downhill through the forest.

(4) We have left the forest and Thierbach lies ahead of us. We continue downhill along the path.

(5) We have reached Thierbach and take a short tour through the village. We turn right, then left (the school is on the right (6)). At the Sollerwirt, we turn right, then right again.

(7) We have reached the church. Then we head back towards the school and take the same route back to the Schatzberg mountain station (S/E).

Alternatively, you can take the ski bus from Thierbach back to Auffach, but there are only two departures in the afternoon.

• The hiking trail is well signposted and cannot be missed.
• No places to stop for refreshments along the route, but there are some on the Schatzberg and in Auffach.
• The trail follows a signposted toboggan run, snowshoes were not necessary.
