A tour of the wash houses in Suèvres and the surrounding area

Park in the car park on Rue Jean Desjoyeaux. The car park is on the right, 300 metres from the junction of the main street (Rue Lucien Mignat) and Rue Jean Desjoyeaux, where the town hall is located.

(S/E) Set off along the path, with your back to Rue Jean Desjoyeaux, then turn left at the junction with a side lane, the Chemin des Sablonnards. Ignore the path branching off to the left.

(1) When you reach the hamlet of Les Bonneaux, leave the Chemin des Sablonnards and take Rue des Choiseaux on the left, heading towards Diziers. Ignore the various side paths.

(2) At the Fork in the road in the hamlet of Les Yvonnières, keep left. Rue des Yvonnières passes in front of a wash house, then the Château de Diziers on your right.

(3) Once past the old stables, turn right at the Fork in the road until Rue des Yvonnières meets a side street, which you should take to the left. Turn immediately right onto Rue de la Folie, then left again when you reach another side street in the hamlet of La Folie.

(4) At the junction, continue along the narrow lane by turning right, leaving the path opposite. At the junction with Rue de la Prasle, turn left then immediately right onto Rue du Clos Riche.

(5) Take the first path on the left, Rue du Bas Fontain. At the junction with Rue de Laloin, turn right, pass the wash house, then turn left just after Laloin Castle onto Rue du Château d’Eau.

(6) Once past the water tower, turn left onto Rue de Fleury, cross the Fleury A-road with care, and continue straight ahead onto Rue de la Motte. Pass the manor house and its pond. Rue de la Motte turns right at the first junction.

(7) At the second junction, leave Rue de la Motte and take a narrow lane on the left-hand side leading down towards the Tronne, which you will cross. Ignore the lane branching off to the right, then turn immediately left onto the first path. This path runs close to the Tronne before moving away from it again.

(8) At the crossroads, take the lane on the left, cross the Tronne, then turn right at the Fork in the road (cross), leaving Rue du Grand Port straight ahead. At the junction just after the sports grounds, head left onto Rue de la Cochardière.

(9) Turn right into the narrow lane leading to Rue des Moulins, which you’ll join on the left. Finally, turn left onto Rue Pierre Pouteau at the Rochechouard mill.

Rue Pierre Pouteau crosses the main road (Rue Lucien Mignat), which you should cross _with care_ to finish the walk by following Rue Jean Desjoyeaux opposite, then Chemin des Sablonnards on the right. This path curves to the left before reaching the finish point after 200 metres (S/E).

This walk can be enjoyed in all seasons.

The Rochechouard watermill is situated in the centre of the village of Suèvres and dates from the 14th century (1393). It retains all its original machinery; having been used as a tannery mill during the Revolution, it has since been restored to a grain mill.

The Church of Saint-Christophe in Suèvres is a complex dating from^{the 12th},^13th and^16th centuries. It features a Merovingian façade on the west side and a^16th-century water spout.
