Virgin of Alsace, Sickertbach Pass and Rocher de la Croix

Starting from the centre of Sickert, a beautiful hike offering views of the Virgin of Alsace overlooking the Doller Valley, then ascending the Sickertbach valley, passing the Sickertbach Shelter and the pass of the same name, and returning via the foot of the Falkenstein to the Col de Luttersberg to enjoy the magnificent view from the Rocher de la Croix. Descent towards Sickert via the charming Chapel of the Owls (Kutzakapalala).

Description of the walk

Car park in front of Sickert Church.

(S/E) Return to the Main Street and head up it to the left: Blue Disc markings.

(1) Take the road on the left at the junction and follow the Vierge d'Alsace route: Blue Ring and Green Ring markings. Walk for about 400 m.

(2) Turn left, following the dual markings, and head towards the statue of the Virgin of Alsace.

(3) To the right of the statue, follow an unmarked path uphill for about ten metres, then turn right to go downhill and rejoin the original path.

(2) Head straight on.

(1) Turn left to climb up the valley, following the Sickertbach Blue Disc markings.

(4) Keep to the right at the three-way junction and follow the main path to the junction leading to the Sickertbach shelter.

(5) Retrace your steps. Take the forest track on the left for about 100 metres, then follow the marked path on the right which leads to the Col du Sickertbach.

(6) Take the path on the right, following the Yellow Rectangle with a White Rectangle.

(7) Ignore the unmarked paths on your left and head right, following the same markings.

(8) At the crossroads, turn right following the Red Triangle markings and head for the Col du Luttersberg.

(9) Follow the signs for Sickert via the Rocher de la Croix and the Kutzakapalala: Red Ring markings. Reach the Rocher de la Croix and enjoy the panoramic views.

(10) Continue downhill, taking the path on the right with the same markings until you reach the edge of the forest above Sickert. Head to the small chapel.

(11) Continue straight on to Rue Zimmermann and follow it. At the bridge over the Sickertbach, head up Rue Principale on the right to the church car park, located on the left (S/E).

Worth a visit

(3) Monumental statue of the Virgin of Alsace, created by the French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle and unveiled in 1923. It is notable for the Virgin holding her child as if she were presenting him.
