Venansault via Fontenelles Abbey

Starting from La Roche-sur-Yon, discover a route with small hamlets, a few beautiful residences, small roads and paths shaded by hedges. Description of the route

Departure from Place Napoléon.Electric bikes can be hired from the Tourist Office.

(S/E) Take Rue Georges Clemenceau, continue along this street until you reach Place de la Vendée, and cross it, continuing straight ahead.

(1) Turn onto Rue Raymond Poincaré and follow it to the end.

(2) At the Lucier Morineau roundabout, take the cycle path that runs alongside Rue Roger Salengro.

(3) At the Gisèle Halimi roundabout, turn right onto Boulevard Arago and continue to the next crossroads.

(4) Turn left, then keep right on Impasse des Olympiades, heading towards Piscine - Patinoire Salengro, until you reach a roundabout.

(5) Take the path on the left and follow the pond to the roundabout.

(6) Continue straight ahead on Rue Joséphine Baker and join a cross street after passing under a road bridge.

(7) Turn left towards Venansault and you will soon come to a track on the right.

(8) Ignore it (return) and continue straight ahead until you reach the D42.

(9) Turn right towards Venansault, then quickly turn left onto Route de la Croix des Fontenelles. Follow this small road to the end, keeping to the left after Croix des Fontenelles, and you will arrive at a viewpoint overlooking Abbaye des Fontenelles.

(10) Continue straight ahead to Moulin des Fontenelles.

(11) At the left-hand bend in the road, take the path on the right, and at the next crossroads, turn right again.

(12) At the three-way junction, turn right, pass through the hamlet of La Plinière, then Les Fontenelles, and continue until you find a track on the left, at the edge of the forest.

(13) Take this track and continue to the second crossroads.

(14) Take the small path on the left, then continue on the tarmac road. Note the Château de la Boursière on your right. Continue straight ahead until you find a path on the right, at the entrance to houses nos. 1 to 3.

(15) Take this small footpath on the right, which leads to the ponds in Venansault Park. Walk along the right-hand side and, after crossing the park, turn right at the car park and then left to walk alongside the Îlot des Arts and Place Billardière.

(16) Cross the street, turn onto Rue Saint-Michel opposite, and immediately turn left onto the footpath.

(17) At the end of the path, turn right and, a few metres further on, turn right again onto Rue Saint-Michel, then left onto Allée des Chênes.

(18) At the roundabout, continue straight ahead on Allée des Chênes, then continue on the cycle path (marked with wooden directional signs).

(19) At the road, continue to the right, then quickly rejoin the cycle path on the left. Reach the end of Impasse de la Brande, at a cross.

(20) Continue straight ahead, continue along Chemin des Châtaigniers until you reach the road you have already taken.

(8) Turn left, follow Route des Hirondelles for about 20 metres, cross the road and take the track opposite, pass under the D160 for about 100 metres, then turn right to cross the Ornay.

(21) Just after the bridge over the Ornay, turn left onto the footpath. Join Rue Roger Salengro and follow it to the left until you reach the roundabout you passed on the way out.

(3) Continue straight ahead, in the opposite direction to the outward journey, to return to the starting point at Place Napoléon (S/E).
