Park in the car park in front of the town hall.
(S/E) Set off along Rue de l’Église heading north, then continue along Rue Claude Joseph Bonnet. Proceed to the junction with Rue de la Térèche.
(1) Carry on straight ahead along Rue Claude Joseph Bonnet. Ignore the road branching off to the left towards Mérignat and Breignes (D63) and continue to the right (Chemin de Traversagnes).
(2) Towards the end of the row of houses, take a yellow-marked path on the right just before a Yellow Cross. This path climbs and joins a road. Turn right, then take the left-hand fork to cross the hamlet of La Combe. On leaving the hamlet, turn left, then immediately right to follow the path and reach another road. Follow this road to the left.
(3) After about a hundred metres, take the path branching off to the left. This path crosses through vineyards and passes by a hut converted into a basic lodge. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic view.
(4) Continue through the deciduous woodland (oaks, chestnut trees) and pass the Source de Pinaçon before reaching a road again.
(5) Ignore Mérignat on the left and carry on straight ahead. Pass close to the cemetery (on the left) and arrive at a junction with a cross.
(6) Beautiful view of cliffs and an old tower. Take the road on the right, which climbs quite steeply. Follow it straight on until it turns into a dirt track.
(7) Turn right and follow the signpost marked ‘Direction Vieillard 20 mins’. The path continues to climb slightly before beginning to descend. Ignore a path on the left, then at the crossroads (elevation 562), carry on straight ahead until Vieillard comes into view.
(8) Take the hairpin bend to the left to descend towards the village. At the fork in the road, turn right onto the Route de Poncieux, then left to reach, at the bottom of the village, a wash house which can serve as shelter in bad weather. Take the road leading down to the right of the wash house, then, at the junction about 50 metres further on, continue straight ahead along the Chemin des Vignes until you reach a fork.
(9) Take the path on the left which climbs through the vineyards. This is a fairly steep climb, passing through two gates, before rejoining a road at a place called Plessard.
(10) Turn right to reach Poncieux, continuing along Rue de la Fontaine. Turn right onto Montée de la Plantée, then, after passing a block of buildings, turn left before turning right again just before the vineyards. Ignore a path branching off to the right and continue to follow the yellow markings across the meadows. There’s a bench where walkers can rest and admire another panoramic view of the cliffs.
(11) Resume the path and, at the signpost, follow the arrow pointing right towards “Retour vers”. A little further on across the meadow, make sure you don’t miss the marker on the pine tree.
(12) Turn left. The path leads downhill; the Jujurieux signpost is visible. After two hairpin bends, the path comes out onto a road.
(13) Turn left onto it. Walk along the right bank of the Vieillasseux stream. You’ll reach the entrance to the hamlet of Le Bévieur (sign: Bévieur 367m – La Combe 1h).
(14) Take the path on the right leading towards the vineyards.
(15) After the last rows of the first vineyard, rejoin theGR®®59(marked in white and red), following it as it winds uphill to the right alongside the vines. Then cross the woods on a rather long and very steep climb (a rope is provided to help you). You’ll reach a spot marked ‘Le communal’.
(16) From here, take the path on the left which leads back down towards the first houses in Jujurieux.
(17) Turn left onto Chemin du Plan. You will then come out onto Rue de la Térèche. Turn left onto this road to return to the original crossroads.
(1) Turn left and follow the outward route back to the car park (S/E).
