A circular route starting from Calonne-sur-la-Lys

Park in the car park opposite the church in Calonne-sur-la-Lys, on Rue du Bois.

(S/E) Turn right as you leave the car park, heading south-east. This is the D180 or Rue du Bois.

(1) Leave the D180 and turn right onto Haute Rue. Follow it to the T-junction at the end.

(2) Turn left towards Mont-Bernanchon; this is Rue Basse. You will arrive at the entrance to Mont-Bernanchon.

(3) At the three-way junction, turn right until you reach Rue du Riez du Vinage, the D184. Drive through Riez du Vinage. You will come to a street on the left, Rue du Pont Supply.

(4) Follow this street. At the next junction, keep on Rue du Pont Supply to the right and head towards the Canal d’Aire.

(5) Keep to the right on the towpath. Pass under the Suppli bridge and then under the D937 bridge.
Then head towards the Chemin Chocquoy junction.

(6) Turn right here, then left onto Route de Béthune. Follow this road through Robecq until you reach Rue de Calonne on your right, the D69.

(7) Turn right onto the D69, Rue de Calonne. Continue to the junction with Ruelle des Amusoires

(8) Turn left onto it and, further on, left again onto Ruelle des Amuzoires. At the end of this road, continue straight on until you reach Saint-Venant at the junction with the D186.

(9) Turn left onto this road.

(10) Cross the Busne and continue to the church.

(11) Opposite the church, turn right onto Chemin de Ceinture. Cross the bridge over the canal branch.
Turn right and head towards the Lock No. 3 Bridge.

(12) Cross the bridge to reach the marina.
Take a moment here to enjoy the beautiful marina at Haverskerque.

(13) Head back to the Lock Bridge.

(12) Turn left onto the Chemin du Halage along the banks of the Lys. Follow this path, which is almost straight, to the junction with Chemin Henri Briaval, located immediately after a group of four houses

(14) Turn right onto this road. Follow it until you reach Rue Régine Leclercq, directly ahead of you, and enter Calonne-sur-la-Lys.

(15) Turn left at the crossroads and continue straight on to the church car park (S/E).

This route is ideal for cycling, as at least 70% of it is on tarmac.

(5) The Aire Canal: Initially known as the Scarpe and the Escaut, it has been widened and classified as a deep-draught waterway from Douai to Dunkirk; it is called the Aire Canal from La Bassée to Air-sur-la-Lys, then becomes the Neufossé Canal as far as Saint-Omer, and finally the Dunkirk Canal where it flows into the North Sea.

(14) The Lys: From Air-sur-la-Lys, it flows through Merville and Armentières before joining the Deule at Deulémont, which is channelled as far as Ghent.
It is used for recreational boating and is sometimes prone to severe flooding, causing it to burst its banks, particularly at Sailly-sur-la-Lys.
