A short walk around the Phare des Baleines

It’s completely flat. It’s briny. It’s lovely to see the lighthouse from a different angle.

Description of the walk

There is no shortage of car parks near the start of the walk. Please note, this walk may be impossible or even dangerous as it follows the beach. Be very careful at high tide or in heavy weather.

(S/E) The walk starts at the beginning of Rue du Chaume. Head due north towards the sea along Rue du Chaume.

(1) Once you reach the sea, turn left onto the sea wall, ignoring the path set back a little where the trees block the view. Continue to the lighthouse grounds.

(2) The path on the sea wall ends. Head down to the beach via the sea wall and go round the two towers. Pass under the signal box and continue along the beach to the old lifeboat garage.

(3) Head back up onto the sea wall and take the path that runs alongside the beach. Take the first path on the left just at the end of Les Baleines campsite. Cut across Chemin des Pérouses and follow Chemin de la Salle straight ahead.
Cross Rue du Phare and continue straight on into Rue de la Madeleine. Cross the Route du Grand Fossé (D735) and you have arrived (S/E).
