Start from the car park at the port of Ars-en-Ré.
(S/E) Go around the harbour basin to the south to reach the Quai de la Chabossière and the entrance channel. At low tide, when the basin lock is closed, you can use the footbridge to avoid going around it.
(1) The path follows the Fier d'Ars; take it, staying as close as possible to the sea wall.
(2) Shortly after thethird kilometre, leave the dyke to cross a copse and join a salt marsh path. At the end, turn left onto the Route de la Prée and join Le Martray and the D735.
(3) Cross and climb the dyke on the Pertuis d'Antioche side, to the south of the island. Follow the footpath on the right until you reach thesecond stone cottage opposite the fish lock.
(4) Go down the steps on the right and read the information about the foreshore and the locks of Île de Ré. Follow the dirt track parallel to the dyke.
(5) At the top of the hill, take a small path on the right that follows the back of the coastal dune.
(6) Climb back up onto the sea wall at Pas du Jard and follow it to the restaurant "Aux frères de la Côte".
(7) Take the road on the right towards Ars and immediately left into Allée des Cupressus. At the end, turn right and left into Rue de la Fontaine, then left onto Route de la Pointe du Grignon and continue to the end.
(8) When you reach the beach, take the small coastal path on the dune on the right until you reach the edge of the forest. Go around the housing estate in the woods.
(9) Follow the main forest road on the left, go past the "La Combe à l'Eau" campsite and take the tarmac road on the right. After 200 m, you will arrive at a picnic area where you can stop for a bite to eat.
(10) Take the road eastwards, cross the road to the water treatment plant and, at the corner of the campsite, turn left onto the no-entry road and follow it to the end, past the hotel.
(11) Turn left onto the departmental road (D735) then right onto the road leading to the marshes.
(12) At the end, cross the cycle path and follow the road opposite that enters the salt marshes. Take thesecond path on the right and leave it after 150 metres.
(13) Climb up onto the Fier dyke and follow the path to the salt marsh road, which you will take on the left.
(14) Leave it after about 350 m and head left towards the marina. Cross the car park towards the channel to rejoin the cycle path, which takes you back to the starting point (S/E).
