Trient to Tré-le-Champ - Tour Monte Blanc

This 9th stage of the Tour Mont Blanc (TMB) offers three options, the North-West one that climbs up almost to the summit of Carraye (t 2,132m) and drops down to Valorcine, the South-West past Col de Balme (at 2,191m) then drops to Le Tour or the middle option that goes over Col de Balme and Aiguilette des Posettes (at 2,210m) to drop down to Tré-le-Champ. Here's the description of the classic middle option. Let's do it!
The TMB is a classic long-distance footpath that goes around Mont Blanc, passing from France into Italy and through Switzerland before returning to France.

Description of the walk

Start : Auberge Mont-Blanc [https://www.aubergem...] in Trient.

(S) From the Auberge Mont-Blanc, cross the main road (203) and follow a lane (Le Betty) towards the stream, past the Hôtel La Grande Ourse. Continue on the lane, keeping the stream on the right, as the name changes to Le Moulin.

(1) At a road junction, bear right on Le Gremé, over the stream, and left along another lane that follows the stream South as far as Le Peuty.

(2) Take the track that leads off to the right of the camping site (South), climbing gently at first then steeper as the track becomes a path and enters a wood.

(3) The route zig-zags up the mountain whilst in the woods but levels out somewhat when the open ground is reached.

(4) The path swings right and climbs diagonally to reach Les Herbagères.

(5) Continue up the winding path, climbing the lower slopes of Les Grandes Otanes (at 2,679m) generally bearing right with the stream coming up to meet us on the right to reach the French frontier and the Col de Balme (at 2,191m).

(6) A short distance away to the left is the Refuge du Col de Balme and to the right the Tête de Balme (at 2,321m) but our route lies ahead, heading North-West under the Tête de Balme, crossing the stream L'Arve and under the ski lifts.

(7) Here bear left to drop down to the Col des Posettes (at 1,997m).

(8) Our route climbs again, heading South-West to reach the summit of Aiguillette des Posettes (at 2,201m).

(9) From there the descent is along the ridge, dropping 300m to swing left and dropping another 150m before entering a wood.

(10) The descent continues steadily through the wood, dropping another 250m, to come out onto a road at a car park on the D-1506 Rte des Montets.

(11) Turn left (South-East) along the road and take the track on the left that runs parallel to the road and takes us directly into Tré-le-Champ and the Auberge la Boërne https://www.la-boerne.fr/en/accueil/ (E).
