Tour of Lac des Vieilles Forges

This walk takes you around Lac des Vieilles Forges in the Ardennes.
This is a very accessible route, mainly through forest, but you can add more sections along the lake if you wish. It was a little muddy after the previous day's rain (wear appropriate footwear).

Description of the walk

Park in the large car park at the beach near the activity area.

(S/E) Head west along the lake and join Rue du Lac.

(1) Follow it to the left, walk past the tennis courts, then reach the village of Vieilles Forges. Continue to the Impasse des Sapins crossroads.

(2) Turn left and continue until you reach the lake dyke.

(3) Continue along the path that follows the road. Walk along the lake, then after a right-hand bend, you will reach Ruisseau le Noir.

(4) Cross it and further on cross the Ruisseau du Pont Gilles and arrive at a crossroads.

(5) Turn left, continue along the lake and arrive at Pont des Aunes.

Hike completed: a total of 12km in 2 hours 19 minutes (I had walking poles and took a few quick photo breaks). You can combine this with other trails if you’d like to explore the area around the lake further. Walking poles are handy for crossing small streams; not many people about (apart from the anglers). Lakeside and lovely woodland. A lovely route to follow: Plus, plenty to quench your thirst once you arrive at the lakeside beach.
