The walk starts at the eastern end of Lac des Vieilles Forges. Parking is easy on the other side of the D988, in the old bend that has been turned into a car park.
(S/E) Take the path that runs along the lake shore: this is theGR®®16but also the path called Voie Vive.
(1) Stay as close to the lake as possible, leaving the GR®®. When the weather is dry enough, you can follow the fishermen's path which runs close to the shore but becomes very muddy after rain. You can admire the lake by getting closer to the water at various points, such as the small point at the end of a branch of the lake.
(2) Continue on towards a wild area near the Ruisseau du Pont Gilles stream, which you should not cross. You will reach the multi-directional junction of the Route Forestière de la Rochette, where six paths meet.
(3) Take the path just to the left of the bench and the tree with plot number 14 (as you face them). This is the only slightly steep part of the hike, climbing from 250 to 320 metres in about 600 metres.
(4) Turn right, then immediately left to rejoin the forest road further on, at the crossroads of plots 32, 33, 34 and 42.
(5) Descend to the left for about 100 metres, then turn right to find a beautiful path that climbs slightly: be careful not to take the one next to it, which descends.
(6) At the crossroads, descend to the left for about 20 metres, then turn right between the fir trees.
(7) Continue straight ahead as you leave the fir trees and you will soon come to the Ardoisière gravel forest road. Follow it to the right until you find a cutting on the left that descends towards the lake.
(8) Turn left, then right to rejoin the Voie Vive.
(1) Turn right along a path lined with fir trees to return to the starting point (S/E).
