The start of this walk is at the Lac de Gérardmer car park, near the l’Après Ski restaurant.
(S/E) From the car park, cross the Route d’Épinal and head towards the lakeshore. Start your walk around the lake in a clockwise direction. Follow the bank as close to the lake as possible. Walk past the Casino and the Conference Centre, take the footbridge over the Water Sports Centre, pass the Aquanautics car park and face the Roche du Lac.
No signposting
(1) Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and head to the right of the Roche du Lac. Take the narrow path between the rock and the ‘Toilettes’ hut. Continue through the woodland past the Roche du Lac, cross a path on your right and keep a close eye out for the next junction on the left.
(2) Turn left and you will soon reach the Route de la Bresse.
Yellow Ring markings
(3) Carefully take the road on the left for about thirty metres, heading towards the lake. Cross the road and follow a path heading south into the woods. You’ll come to a clearing.
(4) Turn right onto a fairly steep path.
Red Triangle markings
(5) Turn right again onto a path through the rocks and head for the hamlet known as La Roche du Renard.
(6) Stay on the track until you cross the Route de la Bresse again.
Yellow Triangle markings
(7) Cross the D486 with care. Heading south, take the Chemin de la Grange Passée and join the Chemin de la Goutte des Sats (a shortcut is possible via (12) to avoid the Saut de la Bourrique; see Practical Information), which bends and heads west. Look out for a path branching off to the left.

(8) Turn left and head for the Urson forest track. Walk to the hamlet of l’Urson. Continue along this track, following the sign for “Col de Sapois”. Pass a private pond and head for the Col de Sapois.

(9) Head right, northwards, along the Chemin de Sapois until you reach the junction with the old Chemin du Phény.
Red Disc markings
(10) Turn right just after a property, follow the signs for “Saut de la Bourrique” (a shortcut is available via (12) to avoid the Saut de la Bourrique; see Practical Information). Cross the Ruisseau du Phény. Turn left at the Grange Mougeon. Head down towards the Ruisseau du Phény and the waterfall known as the Saut de la Bourrique.

(11) Follow the Ruisseau du Phény, crossing it several times via pretty little stone bridges. At the houses, rejoin the Chemin de Sapois and follow it as far as a riding centre.
(12) Turn left, walk past the riding arenas and cross the Ruisseau du Phény once more. Stay on the left bank and cross back to the other side at the car parks near the lake. Walk through the car parks to rejoin the Tour du Lac trail.

(13) Turn left. Gradually head towards the lake and rejoin the lakeside path, negotiating a few uneven sections near the Roches Noires. Return to the Lido.
(14) Continue as close as possible to the shore, finishing on a path running parallel to the Route d’Épinal until you reach the car park where you started (S/E).
