Park in the centre of the village, on the small square behind the Bateau Livre café-bookshop.
(S/E) Take the Men Ar Mor road, then take the second street on the right (Chemin du Galiédais) which descends towards the marshes. At the bottom of the slope, the path curves to the left to follow the edge of the old salt marsh.
(1) When you reach the coastal path, turn right onto the dyke that crosses the Men Ar Mor marsh (Chemin du Sécé). A bridge crosses a small stream just before climbing up to the Brambert hill. A hedge-lined path leads to the outskirts of the village of Pénestin.
(2) At the junction with Rue du Lienne, turn slightly right then continue left to the centre of the village via Rue des Viviers. This leads to the crossroads of Rue de l'Eglise and Rue du Calvaire, which marks the centre of the village. Go straight up Rue du Calvaire until you reach Rue de Toulprix. Turn right and go down to the next crossroads.
(3) Take Chemin du Cabelain, which branches off to the left of the crossroads, on the right-hand side of the main road. This residential road quickly becomes a cycle path. Please be mindful of sharing the road with other users.
After winding through the countryside and passing a housing estate, the path leads to the coastal road (Allée du Maro). Cross the road and then the car park serving La Source beach, turning left. A small path leads to the top of the Mine d'Or cliff.
(4) Depending on the tide, take the coastal path on the right, which runs along the cliff top, or the ramp on the left, which leads down to the beach (choice shown on the map). Follow the cliff to the right until you reach the end of the beach. Once you have passed the casemates at Pointe du Lomer, you will come to a beach with several coves. Again, if the tide allows, follow the coast along the foreshore. Otherwise, take the coastal path a little further back.
(5) Pointe de Cofrenau marks the westernmost point of northern Pénestin. It hides the small beach of Logui. At the end of the beach, climb up the coastal path to pass the next point and continue to the beach before the Pointe du Halguen (pronounced hal-gwenn) (before the beach, there is a beautiful view of the entrance to the Vilaine and the Pointe de Penlan, which marks the northern boundary between the bay and the estuary).
(6) Turn right onto the road leading to the beach, then left, following the coastal road to Allée de Camaret. This road leads to the cove of the same name, where there is a crescent-shaped beach that is well sheltered from westerly winds. But we are in the estuary, and if there is no water, you can take a mud bath there. Go back up the coastal path that runs along the beach and around the Pointe du Castily to reach the Men Ar Mor dunes.
(7) Take the first path on the right leading away from the coast. It joins the Men Ar Mor road, which you follow to the right to reach Haut Pénestin and the starting point (S/E).
