Head to the Glashutte farmhouse inn. To get there, at the entrance to Soultz, head towards Jungholtz, then pass Rimbach-près-Guebwiller. The road to the farm is signposted and there is a car park where you can park without any problems.
(S/E) Head towards the Col du Judenhut along the path that runs alongside the road you came on for a short distance.
(1) When you reach the Col du Judenhut, continue straight ahead and then take a small path on the left that leads to the Haag farmhouse inn. This path goes around the Grand Ballon, offering a view of the Petit Ballon, and passes above the Lac du Ballon.
(2) When you reach the Haag farm, climb towards the Grand Ballon via the path on the south side (slightly to the right when looking at the Grand Ballon from the farm). A very short section of the path crosses a field. During the climb, there are beautiful views of the Saint-Amarin valley and you pass through a pile of rocks. Once you reach the Grand Ballon, you pass the Diables Bleus monument to get to the radar station.
(3) From there, follow the path from which you can see Lac du Ballon below, until you reach the Grand Ballon farmhouse inn.
(4) Cross the departmental road at the Grand Ballon farmhouse inn and, opposite the restaurant on the right, a small path leads down to the Glashutte. This section is not very well signposted, so check your position with a GPS in relation to the route described, as the destination of the Glashutte is not very well indicated and it is a little difficult to find your way due to the forest and numerous forest paths. Towards the end of the route, there are two passages that cut directly through areas where rows of trees have been cleared!
However, you can find some comfort at the Glashutte farmhouse inn (S/E), where you can enjoy a delicious pie and a slice of Vacherin cheese.
