Description of the walk

(S/E) Walk past the mill and follow the path to the junction with the road, then turn left. After about a hundred metres, turn onto the path on the left. Walk alongside the channel.
You’ll come to a bridge, which you cross.

(1) Take the path on the left (GR®34). (Before this path, you can go straight on to Penmern Chapel).

(2) At the end of the path, where it joins the road, turn left, follow the road and then turn left again.

(3) When you reach the hill, turn right and immediately take the footpath on the right (do not enter the oyster farm).

(4) At the end of the path, turn left onto the road, then take the path on the right (almost directly opposite).
Then take the path on the right before the oyster farm.
Follow the coastal path to Port Blanc: this is the starting point for Île aux Moines,

(5) Take the road on the right opposite the harbour. Carry on straight ahead to the roundabout and turn right (you’ll walk up through a car park to the end).

(6) At the end of the car park, follow the path opposite and continue along the coastal path to the Toulindac water sports centre (a lovely beach, one of the few in the gulf with sand at low tide).

(7) Take the path on the left and then immediately turn right. When you reach the road, turn left.
Turn left onto Chemin du Manoir de Kerdelan, walking past the beautiful farmhouses (some of which are guesthouses). At the end, take the path on the right and, when you reach the road, continue left onto Route de Kerfranc

(8) Follow this road and take the second road on the left.

(9). Continue up to the junction with the D316.

(10) Continue straight ahead. At the next junction, turn left and you’ll reach Bocoan. Take the road on the left and, after 150m, the path on the left. Before the thatched cottage, take the path on the left. Pass the former Pen en Toul airfield.

(11) At the well, turn right. The track joins the road, which you follow to the right. Cross the bridge: lovely views over the Pen en Toul marsh, a nature reserve for birds.

Off the main route: at the end of the bridge, continue along the path on the right and carry on to reach the marsh observatory (where you can spot many birds). Return to the road.
Follow the path eastwards along the coast (on the left if coming directly from the bridge). Climb a few steps.
At the end of the path, turn right onto “Chemin de Pen en Toul”. At the crossroads, carry straight on to reach Larmor-Baden (S/E).

Worth a visit

Penmern Chapel

At Port Blanc, at high tide and/or spring tide, observe the speed of the current between the mainland and the Ile aux Moines.

The Pen en Toul Marshes, owned by Bretagne Vivante, the Conservatoire du Littoral and a private individual since 1995. This former salt marsh, cut off from the sea in the 11th century, is now one of the Gulf of Morbihan’s main sites for waterbirds.

Visit to Larmor-Baden (market on Sunday mornings).

A lovely walk, with beautiful views over the Gulf of Morbihan. The path is well signposted (thanks to the Morbihan signposters!) and well maintained; we completed it in 2½ hours, including breaks.
One downside: quite a bit of tarmac from Port-Blanc to Larmo-Baden

During the school holidays, the coastal paths are very busy. From 1 November onwards, there will be few people using them during the winter. It’s an ideal route for walking, even with children, but difficult with a pushchair or a child’s bike. The path is narrow in places.

A really lovely walk – almost entirely on flat ground. Beautiful views of the gulf. I’d recommend it.
