(S/E) Depart from the Luri sports ground, below the hamlet of Poghju (Poggio). Take the small path heading north, just opposite the entrance to the sports ground. Fork the stream and take the path that climbs through the woods, slightly to the left. Soon, it becomes a magnificent sunken path between two high wooded embankments. As it climbs the mountain, the embankments become dry stone walls, while the forest of holm oaks gives way to scrubland.
(1) When you reach the ridge, turn left and follow it. Further on, the path becomes a tunnel of vegetation as it advances towards the head of the valley. On the right, your view is captured by the solar photovoltaic power station that spreads out just below the opposite ridge.
At the bottom of the valley, the path makes a hairpin turn to reach a small pass (Pianta Fiadone).
(2) Turn left and continue climbing the ridge until you reach the edge of Punta di Gulfidoni. When you reach the foot of the antenna, you will see a precipice plunging down to the sea, which appears to be very close.
(3) Retrace your steps to take the path that branches off to the right. It rejoins the ridge at Punta di a Filetta Suprana and stays with it until Col de Santa Lucia. Some very narrow passages are striking, as you feel like you are walking on a rocky blade. Opposite, the tower, so visible from another angle, is barely distinguishable from the rocky pillar on which it is built.
At the foot of Monte Popolu (the last peak before the pass), the path plunges into the vegetation and turns left to go around the summit. Ignore the path coming from the left and continue straight on until you reach the Col de Santa Lucia.
(4) Cross the road and go up the road that starts to the left of the chapel. Follow this road for 200 metres through the Laricio pines and turn left onto the first path you come to. This cuts across the hairpin bends in the road, passing through woods that have recently been partially cleared. However, the path has been cleared and the direction remains visible despite the work.
You will rejoin the road shortly afterwards and follow it to the old convent (U Cuventu). At the far end of the car park, take the path that leads to the Tower of Seneca. A fairly strenuous climb awaits you to reach the tower, which takes about 15 minutes. Please note that the final section can be slippery in wet weather (large schist slabs).
(5) Descend back to the car park and take the path on the right as soon as you arrive. It goes around the garden of the old convent and enters a beautiful forest of holm oaks. This path and its features (retaining walls, steps, etc.) have been beautifully renovated, as has the footbridge over the Fundali stream. Thanks to the Amici di u Rughjone, who are undoubtedly responsible for this.
(6) After the footbridge, the forest gives way to the old gardens, which are now also wooded! If you look closely, you can see in the restored features the ingenuity that went into making such rugged landscapes productive and bringing the necessary water to the crops.
After crossing a more recent path, the trail plunges down the slope as the landscape opens up. You will quickly reach the hamlet of Fieno. Don't hesitate to enter and cross it, always looking to descend.
(7) When you reach the road at the bottom of the village, ignore it and continue along the path opposite, which leads to the hamlet of Liccetu. To cross it, follow the same instructions as for the previous one. At the bottom of the village, the road forms a hairpin bend. Follow the road downhill for a good hundred metres, then turn right onto the path that cuts across the slope.
Cross the road leading to the pass and continue downhill on the path on the other side of the road. Through the woods, it runs more or less alongside a stream before joining a beautiful path framed by stone walls. At the first ruin you come to, turn left then right to reach Piana and its beautiful square tower.
(8) Follow the road that leads to the village, cross Alzetu, then at the end of the straight road, climb the embankment on the right to follow the path that leads to Poghju. Once you reach this hamlet, descend the steep road on the left that crosses the hamlet until you reach a crossroad. Turn left and you will reach the starting point 100 metres further on (S/E).
