To reach the starting point: in the Luri valley, between Luri and the Col de Santa Lucia, take the small road signposted towards Licettu (on the left coming from Luri). Park at the end of the dead-end road, in the hamlet of Fieno. If the car park is full, drive back down to park in the main hamlet of Licettu. Then walk to Fieno via the signposted path (a few minutes’ walk).
(S/E) Village of Fieno at the end of the road from Licettu. Enter the village on the right (hand-pump fountain), following the signposting for the ‘Chemin de la Mémoire’. The rust-coloured metal signposts are difficult to make out in the undergrowth, but the route is almost always clear. There are still some traces of old orange markings. Gentle climb through a deciduous woodland.
(1) Follow the wooden sign pointing to ‘Tour de Sénèque’ on the left. From here, follow the orange or red markings. At the entrance to the hamlet of u Conventu, turn left at a right angle. The gradient remains moderate until the foot of the Tour de Sénèque, where it becomes steeper. The path is shaded almost all the way.
(2) Wooden sign. Continue straight on towards the Tour de Sénèque, following the orange markings between the rocks.
Seneca’s Tower. Magnificent views: the sea on both sides, Cap Corse to the north, Italy to the east, and the Corsican mountains to the south.
Head back down to the signpost.
(2), turn left (south) towards ‘Pinzu a Vergine’ on a path that climbs along the ridge. Red markings are rather faded. After a steep but shaded climb, reach a sort of bare plateau. Red markings are rather faded and there are cairns, then dense yellow markings and cairns. Walk for a long time along an exposed ridge. Reach Monte Grofiglieta, where there is an antenna and a little shade.
(3) From Monte Grofiglieta, the yellow markings become scarce. Follow the cairns and the remaining red markings carefully.
(4) You reach a sheltered spot under a rock in the shade. Stay on the path heading west, parallel to the ridge.
(5) Rocky area. Make your way between the rocks, enjoying the shade. Follow the cairns carefully to reach the Bocca (pass) of Pinzu a Vergine.
(6) Near the pass, a large isolated pyramidal rock, and next to it a few menhirs, one of which is still standing. Take the red-marked path to the left. Descend into a shaded valley, reaching a small spring at the edge of the path.
(7) Spring. Continue the descent.
(8) At an inconspicuous crossroads, leave the red markings and take a small path that descends to the right under the trees.
You reach a T-junction. Turn left or right depending on whether you parked at Fieno or Liccetu to return to the starting car park (S/E).
