Park in the car park at the Clos de la Mairie in Barbirey-sur-Ouche.
General note about this route: simply follow the white markers and signs to get from point to point to the 14 points of interest indicated.
(S/E) From the car park, cross the Place de la Mairie. Turn right into Rue de Jaugey. Pass in front of the wash house. 50 metres before the church, turn right into Rue des Cunissères. At the top, at the right-angle bend, turn left. After the last house, stay on the gravel path and ignore the path that climbs to the right further on. Continue along the edge of the forest until you reach the sign indicating that you should leave the path and take a track that climbs towards the rock of La Casquette. This forms the southern gateway to the ruins of the old village.
(1) Ignore the path opposite La Casquette which heads north-east. Go around La Casquette rock, following the white markings which turn sharply to the left and trace a route that allows you to discover the remains of dry stone buildings. Pass "Le Tumulus", then "Les Cadoles", then "La Cave" before leaving the site through the northern gate. Follow the sign for "Roche Chèvre Grotte" to reach it via the balcony. See § Practical information
(2) Walk back 100 m. Turn right, then immediately left to take the path that joins a stony track. Take it to the left to reach the Source de Layé.
(3) Retrace your steps for 100 metres, then turn right and descend for about 200 metres on a narrow, rocky path. Turn right onto the track that leads to Roche Belle.
(4) Cross the Roche Fendue lock and reach the Source du Rouleau and the Cave du Marquis, an excavation in the rock.
(5) Continue along the path.
(6) Keep heading west. When you reach a pile of rocks, turn left to cross it and go down the winding path that passes in front of the Trou-qui-fume (in cold and wet weather). Continue downhill for a few more metres.
(7) Turn left onto Chemin des Vignes. Walk for about 600 metres. Negotiate a sharp right-hand bend and descend the cart track to the hamlet of Jaugey. Cross the road and continue straight ahead to reach the wash house, classified as a "remarkable monument".
(8) Turn right onto Chemin de Châteauneuf.
(9) Once in the forest, leave it on the left for another path that leads to the Balcon de Jaugey on the Coteaux de Marigny.
(10) Turn right and wind your way through the forest, staying on this path.
(11) At the fork, continue left and do the same at the next fork.
(12) Turn right and head towards the Table du Druide.
(13) Continue along the cliff edge, following the closely spaced white markers. Turn right onto a narrow path and shortly afterwards, turn left onto the path that runs behind the vast grounds of Barbirey Castle, which then joins the RD33.
(14) Continue left along the path. Pass the old bridge over the Gironde on your left, walk along the dry stone wall of the grounds of Barbirey Castle and head for the Clos de la Mairie car park (S/E).
