Description of the walk

Park in front of the town hall (check opening hours so as not to cause any disruption to the building – parking available nearby)!

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, turn left onto the road leading uphill towards Corsaint for about 600 metres.

(1) Leave the road and turn right onto the footpath. From here, you’ll have a view of the valley! Follow the footpath for about 1.5 km through the forest (watch out for brambles) until you come out onto a road. Head downhill to the right for about 150 metres and you’ll arrive at Tivauche-le-Haut.

(2) Turn right at a right angle to follow the road leading to Tivauche le Bas. At the three-way junction, you’ll have a choice of two roads. Take the one on the right, not the one on the left, to reach Cortaint.

(3) At the junction, take the road on the right and continue until you reach the D4.

(4) Turn right and follow the D4 (take care) straight on until you return to the town hall (S/E).

Notes

Wear sturdy footwear (muddy path) and perhaps bring a walking stick to keep the brambles at bay.

(2) About fifty metres before this point, you can turn right and take the path through the woods to head back down towards Bard-lès-Époisses.

Worth a visit

Highlights: beautiful views along the way.

Nearby: Époisses Castle, the Buffon forges, the Berthaut cheese dairy (Époisses).

A very pleasant, almost flat walk with beautiful panoramic views, but the path is poorly maintained in places, so you may need to clear a few metres of the path with a stick (brambles and stinging nettles).
For the return journey from Tivauche, the path through the forest (which doesn’t go via Cortaint) is actually better maintained than the one on the way there.

Hello, an interesting route, beautiful scenery, etc. A warm welcome, but unfortunately it’s not very well maintained... we’re well aware of how difficult it is to find volunteers

The only problem with this hike is that the Auxois vineyards have disappeared (probably abandoned and uprooted). On the way back, however, there is the option of taking a beautiful path through the woods rather than walking along the country road. Access is on the right, about 200 metres after the old school in Tivauche le Bas.
