Land and sea around Trévou-Tréguignec

After passing through the Trestel Marshes nature reserve and the woodland overlooking it to the west, this route follows sections of the GR®34 via the small ports of Kériec and Le Goff. A lovely finish at Trestel’s fine-sand beach. Panoramic views of Île Tomé and the bird sanctuary of the Archipelago of the Seven Islands.

Description of the walk

From the D38, which runs alongside Trestel Beach, turn right onto Rue du Moulin (signposted ‘Marais de Trestel’). The large car park is on the right. It is also possible to park along the beach, but these spaces fill up quickly.

(S/E) At an information sign, enter the marshland and follow the path – initially a dirt track – running parallel to the road. Always keep to the path on the left, which alternates between boardwalks and footpaths. Ignore the paths branching off to the right that lead deeper into the marsh. Pass a beautiful oak tree and, near some houses, look out for an exit from the marsh.

(1) Turn left and emerge onto a street between numbers 67 and 65. Follow the road to the right and continue until you reach a junction. Ignore the road to the left, cross a stream and arrive at a path on the right which is closed to motorised vehicles.

(2) Turn right onto this wide path at the edge of the woods and reach a Fork in the road.

(3) Leave the wide track as it continues into the marsh and turn left to head up into the woods. Continue straight on, passing above the sewage treatment works, until you reach a small road which you follow for about 200 m.

(4) Carry on along the Vieille Côte de Trestel and join the D38, Rue de la Mer.

(5) Turn left then right, cross the road carefully and take a small road that descends steadily to the coastal path, running alongside the Ruisseau de Kergouanton towards the end.

(6) Turn left, cross the stream via a footbridge and head towards Pointe de Pors Kerieg along the coastal path at the edge of the woods. Go round the houses below the path and head right towards the headland, which offers a view of Île Tomé, owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral.

(7) Turn round and head back along the coastal path to the previous junction.

(6) Carry on straight ahead along the coastal path until you reach a slipway. Ignore this and take the unmarked path leading towards the rocky headland (views of Île Tomé and, further out to sea, the Archipel des Sept Îles, a bird sanctuary).

(8) Complete the circular route and rejoin the GR®34. Follow the road, passing the Maison des Plaisanciers on your right, and emerge onto Rue de Trestel (D38). Follow it to the left along the paved path until you reach a flight of steps.

(9) Head down to the embankment running alongside Trestel Beach or, at low tide, walk across the beach and continue to the Functional Rehabilitation Centre.

(10) Go round the building on the left and turn left towards another building.

(11) Turn left and follow the path round this rocky headland (viewpoint over Trestel Beach). Carry on until you reach the road and the signposting.

Turn left and follow the road to the bend. When you reach the houses, leave the signposted route and head down towards Royo Beach.

(12) Retrace your steps, continue along the road and walk past the functional rehabilitation centre.

(10) Cross Rue du Trestel at the pedestrian crossing and head straight on towards the car park on the right (S/E).
