Description of the walk

The walk starts from the stopover lodge in Le Poirond, at La Motte-Feuilly.

White and red GRP® markings common to the GR® 654 (Compostela)

(S) At La Motte-Feuilly, take the D36a south, leaving the castle and chapel on your right and leaving the village via the Route de Feusines. Cross the D36 and continue straight ahead until you reach a central reservation planted with a huge ash tree. Turn right onto a wide path running alongside a wood.

(1) At the next intersection, turn right along the woods. Leave the path that branches off to the left and continue to the next crossroads.

Yellow and red GRP® markings

(2) Leave the GR®654 trail, turn left along the woods towards the south, cross the D84 (Route de La Lande), leave the hamlet of La Lande on your left, and continue to the crossroads.

(3) Turn right towards Asnières, cross the hamlet and continue straight ahead to reach the D917 at Rongères.

(4) Cross the D917 (be careful!). At a small wood (poplar grove), walk along a wash house and take the grassy path opposite, which joins a track.

(5) At the road, turn left. At a stone marker commemorating "Rongères, ancienne paroisse, ancienne commune 1789-1828" (Rongères, former parish, former commune 1789-1828), turn onto a track opposite that crosses the Bois du Prieuré. Continue south until you reach the intersection marked by a wayside cross.

(6) At the intersection, take the road on the left; a few dozen metres further on, turn right. Cross the hamlet of Lencourty (note the well covered with chestnut shingles and the barn with portals).

(7) At the crossroads, take the road on the left leading to Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre, whose bell tower is visible.

(8) At the corner of the cemetery and the campsite, turn right onto Rue des Canards and continue to the church and market hall of Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre on Rue du Marché. Join the main route (E).

Worth a visit

La Motte Feuilly: Castle and its yew tree Chapel with the recumbent statue of Charlotte d'Albret.

Sainte-Sévère: A fortified medieval town and advanced citadel of Berry on the border with Limousin, it was the scene of fierce fighting between the English and French, led by Duguesclin during the Hundred Years' War.
Narrow, winding streets lead to the drawbridge gate that opens onto the market square, with its 17th-century market hall and striking calvary depicting the Virgin Mary on one side of the cross and Christ on the other.
