On the path of the deportees, from Rothau station to the Struthof camp

The departure point is at Rothau station, on the TER line between Strasbourg and Saâles.

Special signage for the "Chemin des Déportés" has been in place since 2023.

(S/E) With your back to Rothau station, turn right. At the end, turn left onto Rue de la Gare (D730). Go around the roundabout and continue straight ahead on Rue des Déportés. Cross Rue de Schirmeck and continue straight ahead until the next intersection.

(1) Then turn left and right to take Rue du Bambois. At the first fork, keep left and you will immediately come to another fork.

(2) Keep to the right. At the end of the tarmac road, turn right onto a path marked with a red diamond. At a crossroads, continue straight ahead.

(3) At the T-junction, turn right and then left to continue on the path marked with a red diamond and blue cross. Follow these two markings at the various junctions. This will take you to a T-junction near the Zybrink farm.

(4) Turn right and, after about 200 m, take a sharp left turn to reach the former gas chamber.

(5) Climb the stairs on the right. Cross the D130 carefully twice. After the second time, there are two paths in front of you: take the left one towards La Villa (ignore the red diamond sign). You will arrive at the entrance to the Struthof camp: the necropolis and memorial are open to the public.

(6) Retrace your steps to the former gas chamber.

(5) Turn left, then right at the hairpin bend to return to the intersection you took on the way there.

(4) Continue straight ahead and pass the Zybrink farm.

(7) After about 100 metres, turn right onto the path marked with a yellow ring (you can also stay on the forest road, which rejoins the main route further on). At the fork shortly after, keep left. You will reach the Pépinière shelter.

(8) Turn left and begin the descent along the forest road marked with a red rectangle and yellow ring. Pass the Fontaine Léopold fountain and continue along the forest road.

(9) At a fork, keep left and stay on the forest road (ignore the sign pointing to the right). At the crossroads shortly after, go straight ahead on the Roches Blanches forest road and ignore a path coming from the right. This will take you to the Roches Blanches site.

(10) Continue down the same track, which heads south-southwest.

(11) At the bend, turn right and follow a path. Pass at the foot of an antenna.

(12) You will come out onto a street; follow it to the left. Continue along Rue du Bambois and descend to the intersection you took at the start of the hike.

(2) Then turn right. At the end of the street, turn left.

(1) Follow Rue des Déportés on the right. Go through the roundabout and continue straight ahead on Rue de la Gare. Just before the railway tracks, turn right and quickly return to Rothau station (S/E).
