Strontian Lead Mines via Ariundle Oakwoods

Whilst the direct path between (S/E) and (5) is passable without getting your feet wet as far as the old lead mines, the section between (1) and (3) – which runs alongside the splendid River Strontian (2) – as well as the path that branches off to the right at (4) and winds its way (almost all the way) up the equally magnificent valley, crossing several torrents, is likely to leave you with wet feet. You need to be aware of this!

The bravest – or most intrepid – can continue northwards from (5) along the path that climbs more than 600 metres in elevation to the summit of Sgùrr Dhòmhnuill (888 metres above sea level).

The information boards at the start do not mention when the car park at the entrance to the nature reserve started charging! They simply state that you have 72 hours to pay the modest fee either by phone or via the RingGo mobile app… there is no payment terminal here to pay by card or with cash.

There are no benches or picnic tables, not even in the car park.
