Under the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges cable car

Starting from Yerres, this circular walk takes you through the La Grange forest, passing through the centre of Limeil-Brevannes and then Valenton. The return journey is mostly along the "Végétale", a greenway that passes under the C1 cable car linking Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to Créteil.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the Léo Lagrange stadium in Yerres.

(S/E) Exit the car park via the south exit. Turn left onto the pavement. Go around the roundabout and cross the dual carriageway to reach the cycle path opposite. Take the cycle path on the left until you reach Chemin de Boissy-Saint-Léger in Yerres, which branches off to the right. Follow this road for about 400 metres until you reach thefirst crossroads.

(1) Take thefirst lane on the left, Allée de Thésée, and follow it to the D941. Cross it using the pedestrian crossing. Please note: traffic can be heavy at certain times of day. Continue along Allée de Thésée, cross over the TGV tracks via the footbridge, then continue to the next crossroads about 400 m away.

(2) Turn left onto the large Allée des Bœufs. At the next crossroads (350 m), turn right and continue along this road for about 600 m until you reach the edge of the forest.

(3) Cross Avenue de Valenton at the roundabout and turn onto Rue du Tertre opposite. Follow this street which runs alongside the forest. After about 600 m, the street veers sharply to the right. Leave it and continue straight ahead. After a left-hand bend, you will see a stone-paved path on the right. This is the old Paris-Bastille railway line. Walk about 100 m and join this path.

(4) Continue along this wide path. Cross Rue Eugène Valrin and you will see the old gatekeeper's house on your right. After 150 metres, leave the old track and cross to the parallel street. Turn right onto Rue Traversière, then turn left at the end onto Rue Parmentier. At the end of this street, turn right.

(5) Walk down Rue du Vieux Louvre. Cross the next crossroads. When you reach a small square, turn left and cross Rue Julie-Victoire Daubie. Go down the steps and walk alongside the Paul Langevin nursery school. At the end of the building, turn left and continue to Rue Émile Zola. The Limeil-Brévannes town hall is on your right. Cross at the pedestrian crossing and turn right.

(6) Walk a few dozen metres and take a small path on the left, the Planchette, which starts between the walls. Follow this path until it leads to an internal road in Cité Grégory. Go straight ahead, and just before the last house, you will find the Sentier de la Planchette on the right. This path leads to the avenue that goes to the Valenton cable car station.

(7) Cross the avenue at the cable car station and turn left. At the next traffic lights, cross the avenue again, take the street that goes up to the right, then Rue de la Rocaille, again to the right. At the end of this street, join Impasse Guérin, which leads to a crossroads. Cross at the traffic lights to reach the small square that leads to Château Perissaguet.

(8) Go around the château on the right. Follow the path in front of the south-west façade, with a view of Parc Jacques Chirac, to reach a small street and then the avenue that passes in front of the church. Walk up it for a few dozen metres, then cross over and turn left into Rue Gaston Monmousseau. After the Paul Éluard nursery school, take the next street, then turn left onto the path that runs in front of the buildings. There are murals painted on the buildings. Return to Rue Gaston Monmousseau and, at the end, cross the street to reach the path that leads to the cable car.

(9) Follow the cement path that climbs under the cable car to La Végétale station.

(10) Continue climbing until you reach a roundabout with three roads. Cross over to join the Voie Verte la Végétale. Follow it south for almost 1.5 km. It then turns left. Leave it and continue straight ahead until you reach a high stone wall, which is the boundary of the Château du Maréchal de Saxe park.

(11) Turn right, then left after 200 m. Pass in front of the Grand Haha, a large opening in the surrounding wall, leave the paths that branch off to the right of the Grand Haha, Général Lejeune, and the one along the wall on the left, and continue straight ahead.

(12) After 200 metres, take the Allée Royale on the left to reach a wide path which you follow until you leave the forest. Go through the gate and after 50 metres take the small path on the left which passes between the pavilions. Then turn right to return to the car park of the Léo Lagrange stadium in Yerres (S/E).
