Description of the walk

Parking in the hamlet of La Bastide in the commune of Camps-sur-l'Agly. There are only 2–3 parking spaces. If there are no spaces, you must return to the D14 three-way junction where there are a few parking spaces near the recycling bins.

GR®367 marked in white and red

(S/E) Cross the hamlet heading west.

(1) Leave the road and turn left onto a path heading towards the Col de Péchine. Follow this path uphill to a fork just before the pass.

(2) Turn right towards the north-west and follow a gentle ridge, which starts off gently before becoming the ridge of the Pech de Bugarach.

(3) This is where the going gets tough. Follow the cables and handrails to reach the junction of paths leading up to the summit.

(4) Turn right and climb to the summit of Pech de Bugarach (1,230m).

(5) Descend back to the fork.

(4) Descend following the Voie de la Fenêtre (signposted). Pass in front of “La Fenêtre” (a hole in the rock) and continue the very steep descent to the crossroads at Bergeries de Malquier.

(6) Turn left onto the GR®367 heading south-east, cross the Ruisseau de la Coume and reach the Bergeries de la Couillade.

(7) Continue north-east to reach Campeau and its reservoir.

(8) Climb up to the left to reach theCol de Péchine at an elevation of 872 metres.

(9) Descend and return to the junction from the outward journey.

(2) Continue downhill and, following the reverse route of the outward journey, return to the car park at the hamlet of La Bastide (S/E).

Notes

A mountain hike requiring good physical fitness and suitable equipment (trekking poles, hiking boots, appropriate clothing, maps and a compass, and a safety rope for those with a fear of heights).

⚠️ South-WestRidge : paths through rocky cliffs, mostly equipped with cables, but exposed to a direct fall into the void.

⚠️ Descent via the “voie de la fenêtre” is very steep and tricky; walking poles are essential.

No water.

Only attempt this route in very good weather with clear visibility: no wind, no rain, no cold!

It can suddenly get very cold at the summit of Bugarach and the return route is long!

Worth a visit

The enchanting landscapes of Bugarach, the agro-pastoral landscape and the former human presence (abandoned sheepfolds and hamlets).

Exceptional flora (April–June).

Sublime views of the Pyrenees, the Pyrénées-Orientales (Força Real, the Tautavel tower), the Aude and even the Hérault, with the Caroux clearly visible!
