Leave your car in the small car park after the village of Bugarach, in a bend.
(S/E) At the hairpin bend, take the Cathares trail opposite, which is theGR®®367marked in red and white. Follow the Lac de la Vène.
(1) After the lake and a river ford, take the cattle grid. Continue along the stream, keeping your distance, still onthe GR®®. You will reach the Cascade des Mathieux crossroads.
(2) Take the path on the left to reach it.
(3) Return to the previous crossroads.
(2) Take theGR®® again on the left. Cross the stream and come out onto the D45 road.
(4) Cross it and continue straight ahead to quickly reach the junction ofthe GR®®36andGRP®® du Tour des Fenouillèdes.
(5) Turn left onto theGR®®36. The first section is through easy boxwood undergrowth (muddy after rain). Come out into a large, often windy meadow, then reach the foot of the rocky peak of Pech de Bugarach at La Fenêtre.
(6) Start the climb up the rock via a narrow passage where you will need to use your hands. The top is challenging in foggy and windy weather, and the elements are strong. Reach the summit of Pech de Bugarach.
(7) Begin an easy descent through the boxwood trees. You will find yourself at the bottom of the rocky peak of Pech de Bugarach at La Pique Grosse.
(8) Continue east then north to reach the Col du Linas and the D14 road.
(9) Turn left onto the D14 or continue a little further north on theGR®® trail, which passes through the centre of the village.
Return to the car park where you started (S/E).
