In Chadrat, park in the car park area, Place de la Gazenne, to the west of the village, near a bus shelter, recycling bins and a fountain. There is also a wooden sign indicating “Montépo discovery trail”.
(S/E) Follow the signs for Montépo along a small road that turns into a path; continue straight on for about 600 m.
(1) Turn onto the second path on the left, signposted Montépo. Ignore all paths on the right and you will reach a junction at the Croix Boria marker.
(2) Turn left, then keep right at the fork in the path just after, signposted Montépo. You will arrive at the relay tower.
(3) The Montépo site discovery circular trail begins here. You can set off to the left and follow the red arrows in the correct direction, or head right to follow them in the opposite direction.
If you go right, you’ll pass a small information sign saying “Welcome to the Montépo Site”. Shortly afterwards, take a detour to the left towards another information sign about the volcanic valley and the first shepherd’s/winegrower’s shelter. Then continue along the path as it descends.
(4) Just before reaching a path at another sign saying “Welcome to the Montépo Site”, turn left onto a discreet path. Just after this, you’ll pass a winegrower’s hut (under restoration in May 2026, due to be completed by summer). Further on, you’ll pass through a former vineyard plot that has been replanted; make sure to close the gates properly to prevent the sheep, which maintain the site, from entering.
(5) Take care not to miss the path further on that climbs to the left, at another sign reading "Bienvenue sur le Site de Montépo". Head uphill to reach the relay tower.
(3) Follow the path back the way you came to reach the Croix Boria signpost.
(2) Follow the signs for Vocan and immediately pass the orientation table, then continue along this downhill path. Further on, ignore a hairpin bend to the left, then arrive at a fork in the path.
(6) Head up to the right and continue to the T-junction with a wide path.
(7) Turn right and climb for about 200 m to find the Les Fouesses signpost at a fork in the path. Follow the path to the left towards the Chapelle Sainte-Anne and head towards it.
(8) A picnic table is available at this small chapel. You will also find the Chapelle Sainte-Anne signpost. Follow the signs for Observatoire de la Serre, straight ahead, and immediately ignore the path leading off to the right at the fork. Further on, ignore another path to the right and head uphill until you reach a road.
(9) Cross over and continue straight ahead for about twenty metres (on the right, the site of an information panel about Montagne de la Serre which disappeared in May 2026! The signposts for the Montagne de la Serre hiking trail have also disappeared). At the T-junction, follow the path to the right. (Shortly afterwards, you’ll pass a water catchment whose terrace was once a site for stargazing and observing migratory birds.) Further on, ignore a path on the left (hiking sign missing). You’ll reach a junction with a path; follow it to the left to find the Creux de la Cerfette sign shortly afterwards.
(10) Turn right towards Chadrat. You’ll reach a path after a short descent; follow it to the right. About 100 m further on, you’ll find the Chaumeix site on your right, also developed by the Arkose association, featuring terraces and dry-stone shelters. Further on, at the four-way junction, go straight ahead . You’ll arrive in Chadrat.
(11) Continue straight on through the village, with its beautiful winegrowers’ houses, several fountains and the church built by the villagers. You will eventually reach the village’s main street; follow it to the right to return to your car park (S/E).
