Sentinel Rock and Franz Joseph Glacier viewpoint

Driving to start: To get to the start, from Franz Josef / Waiau, head South, cross the bridge over the torrent and then take the road on the left, towards Franz Joseph Glacier, and park in the car park.

Start: The start is at the toilets and the reconstruction of hut.

(S/E) Go past the hut and follow the wide path towards the glacier.

(1) At the junction, continue straight ahead to start with the view of the glacier. Follow the waymarkers to the end of the path.

(2) The path is closed at a beautiful viewpoint on the glacier due to a section that is no longer passable. Retrace your steps to the intersection.

(1) Turn right and climb up to a promontory at Sentinel rock.

(3) Enjoy the view before retracing your steps to the car park. (S/E)
