Angely trails

This route is an adaptation of the “Les Chemins d’Angely” trail, adding 1 km to the distance and 10 m of additional elevation gain. It offers panoramic views of all the surrounding mountain ranges: Bornes, Aravis, Bauges, Jura, Chartreuse and Belledonne, like a 360° panorama. And on a clear day, Mont Blanc watches over your entire route.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Vaulx cemetery.

(S/E) Return to the village via Route de Nonglard and arrive at Place du Général de Gaulle, near Saint-Pierre Church and the town hall.

(1) Set off opposite onto Route de Saint-Eusèbe and follow it for over 500 m (calvary).

(2) Turn right towards Les Marguettes, go straight on at the junction, leaving Route de Saint-Eusèbe behind. At the next junction, turn right towards the mast and follow the Sentier du Vieux Four.

(3) Go straight on to enter the Bois de Frênes and reach the hamlet of Fresnes-dessous, where you’ll find the tarmac road.

(4) Take the road on the right to go round the Angely stables and cross the hamlet.

(5) At the crossroads, take the Sentier du Petit Bois on the left and follow it. Keep going in the same direction, ignoring the two paths on either side, until you reach a crossroads.

(6) Turn right onto local track no. 7 and follow it until you reach a three-way junction.

(7) Head left to go round Biolley, walk for about a hundred metres then turn right onto the Sentier de la Tourbière. Join the Route de Sillingy, follow it to the left and continue to the first junction.

(8) Turn right onto the Route de Mornaz Haut, which follows the Crêt des Molasses to Mornaz. Walk through the hamlet to reach the junction with the D44.

(9) Continue to the right, carefully following the D44. Cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de Vaudrenaz and return to the cemetery car park (S/E).

Notes

No particular difficulty.

An accessible family-friendly Green Walk.

Walking on trails and through woodland requires suitable footwear, and crossing open areas, especially in summer, means you should carry plenty of water.

Worth a visit

Vaulx’s must-visit restaurant, Les Petits Plats - Par Monts et par Vaulx, Route de Sillingy, offers traditional, carefully prepared cuisine suitable for vegetarians, in a warm and welcoming setting, with excellent service.
