Description of the walk

Starting point at the "Lis-là" media library, 440 Rue du Vercors, in the heart of the village of Saint-Quentin-sur-Isère. Easy parking.

Blue signposts

(S/E) Take the main road north-east and pass the town hall. Cross the Route de Montaud and continue straight ahead until you reach the church.

(1) Turn right and go up the Davin path, which has steps. Walk along an orchard conservatory and you will come to an information panel about the fortified castle (you can make a detour to the left and return to the ruined keep).

(2) Then turn right at the hairpin bend and go downhill. Enter the village of Le Gît via Chemin de la Tour. At the fork, keep left on the same road. Join the D218.

(3) Follow it to the right. Take the first left, Chemin des Gorgeaux, and cross a stream. At the next crossroads, turn left along a road that climbs uphill. When the road turns right, leave it and continue straight ahead on a path. Continue climbing until you come to the signpost for "Chemin des bœufs".

(4) Turn right onto a path that runs horizontally. Cross a stream via a comfortable footbridge and continue climbing, following the blue, yellow and green markings. You will reach a junction marked with a sign for "Terre réfractaire".

(5) Take the path on the right and descend. Follow a few switchbacks, then descend the steep slope. At an intersection, turn left and continue descending until you reach a crossroads near a stream.

(6) At the signpost marked "Pont Boutu", turn left. Ignore a lane on the right and continue along the marked dirt track. At the edge of the forest, keep heading south-southwest to reach a paved road.

(7) Turn right onto this road. At the end, turn right and then left onto a dead-end road that leads to the waste disposal site.

(8) Turn right into another cul-de-sac. At the end, turn left and cross the marshy area of Le Gouret (sensitive natural area). At the end of this area, you will come to a junction with a tarmac road.

(9) Follow it to the right, then take the first left, Rue des Fontaines. Go straight ahead and cross Impasse de Serpolière on the right. Cross a stream and you will immediately come to an intersection.

(10) Turn right, still on Rue des Fontaines. At the next intersection, turn right onto Chemin des Gorgeaux. After about 150 m, you will reach an intersection.

(11) Take a path on the left. Cross the Ruisseau du Martinet via a footbridge. You will come to a narrow street (Impasse du Moulin). Follow it to the left and ignore another narrow street on the left. Cross Rue du Moulin on the right and turn left. At the end of the street, turn right and quickly return to the starting point (S/E).

In the nearby area

The "Davin trail"
This path, which once linked the church and the keep, has been restored by SPIA volunteers to bring this historic path, mapped as early as 1750, back to life.

The tower site
Remains of a 13th-century medieval keep – only the north façade, nearly 30 metres long, remains, a fine example of defensive architecture.

The shared orchard and conservatory of the Tower
It has a dual function: shared and conservatory (preservation of local or ancient fruit varieties). Its aim is to maintain the genetic diversity of rare ancient varieties, thus contributing to the local heritage.
The orchard mainly comprises apple and pear trees, but also cherry and plum trees and potentially other classic fruit trees from the region.

Oxen path
In the past, this path was used to access and transport materials from a refractory earth quarry using oxen.

Source deBacchus
A spring that supplies 30 fountains in the commune. This resource is managed by a syndicate.

Refractory earth quarry
Site of a now abandoned refractory earth quarry (caution: private and dangerous site)

ENS du Gouret
A remnant wetland, restored in 2016-2017, home to crested newts and evidence of the alluvial history of the Isère. The remains of a tile factory can be seen.
