Coastal path at Les Issambres

An easy walk, though uneven in places, along the Issambres coastal path. Views of the Bay of Saint-Tropez for the first few kilometres, followed by views of the Estérel Massif and the Bay of Saint-Raphaël.

Description of the walk

Park at the Arpillon car park: plenty of spaces available.

(S/E) Head towards the small Arpillon beach and follow the coastal path which runs alongside the Corniche des Issambres before joining it.

(1) Ignore the road and enter the small park, cross it and head towards Gireliers beach.

(2) Return to the Corniche des Issambres, turn right and follow it along the pavement until you reach the junction with Avenue des Gabians.

(3) Take the coastal path on the right and head towards La Pinède beach.

(4) Continue along the coastal path, pass Pointe des Issambres and come out onto a dirt car park.

(5) Go straight across it to reach Calanque Tardieu beach.

(6) Walk to the end of the beach, then take the path to Calanque de Bonne Eau.

(7) Continue along the coast, keeping as close to the sea as possible, pass Pointe de la Calle and return to the Corniche des Issambres.

(8) Take the road on the right and follow it for about fifty metres, then turn right onto the coastal path to reach Port Ferréol.

(9) Go round the harbour, rejoin the path and arrive at Impasse du Corsaire. Join the Corniche des Issambres, cross it very carefully as there is no pedestrian crossing, and follow Avenue du Beaupré opposite until the junction with Allée de l’Ancien Train des Pignes.

(10) Turn left and follow this road straight on until you reach the junction with Avenue des Coteaux.

(11) Continue left, staying on Allée de l’Ancien Train des Pignes, cross Avenue du Belvédère and continue straight ahead.

(12) Cross Avenue des Actinies and turn onto Allée de l'Arpillon, which leads onto the Corniche des Issambres. Head to the right to return to the Arpillon car park (S/E).

At this time of year (early May), the path is not cleared and is impassable in places. You have to go back up to the road several times.
This walk is described as easy, which is not at all the case: you sometimes have to use your hands on the rocks.
The return journey via the road is not particularly interesting.

The coastal path runs along the rocks, as the properties extend right down to the water’s edge, so sturdy walking shoes are essential. I wouldn’t recommend it for young children or people who have difficulty walking.
The return journey is a gentle walk along a road running parallel to the coast.
