Séguret via the Fontaine des Fées, starting from Gigondas

Rather than a circular route, it forms a figure-of-eight route running from Gigondas to Séguret, passing the Fontaine des Fées twice and fording the Trignon twice. This part of the Dentelles is less frequented, but it is well worth exploring.

Description of the walk

Park at the Bacchus car park, where there is no time limit.

(S/E) Walk up the access road and turn left to reach Place Gabriel Andéol, passing the town hall. Continue along Rue Eugène Raspail until you reach a Fork in the road.

GRP® des Dentelles de Montmirail, marked with yellow and red signs

(1) Turn right onto Montée des Hospices, then continue along Chemin de Fontsane until you reach a road (D229).

(2) Cross it carefully and carry on straight ahead. The path climbs gently up the Ravin de Pourra towards the north-east; ignore the side paths and continue to a fork (wooden sign).

(3) Leave the main track and follow the path on the left towards “Monastère de Prébayon”. Turn left at the next junction and, at the bottom of the descent, follow the edge of a vineyard to the left until you reach a gap between two fields.

(4) Turn right at a right angle, continue due north and come to a tarmac road; follow this to the right. Pass the Mas de Lancieu and come to a hairpin bend in the road.

(5) Leave the road and turn left – not onto the track leading to a vineyard plot, but onto the footpath just below it. After a somewhat steep and stony descent, fords the Trignon. Head back up the path on the opposite bank and emerge onto a track suitable for vehicles (Chemin de la Fontaine des Fées (fades)). Follow it to the left.

(6) At the signpost, stay on the path and continue towards Séguret along the path, which is now tarmac. Pass several private tracks, then carry on to the right along the Chemin des Combes until you reach a 90° bend to the left.

(7) Turn right onto Chemin de la Peste, then join Chemin de Séguret, which quickly leads to the village on the right at the Grand Font.

No signposting

(8) Continue to the right until you reach the ‘Constant’ signpost.

GR®4marked in white and red

(9) Continue south-east along the tarmac road until you reach a junction with a path on the left.

(10) Leave the road and turn onto a path that climbs to the left. A little further up, rejoin the winding road and follow it to the left until you reach a Fork in the road.

(11) Turn right and carry on to the next signpost.

(12) Turn right towards the Fontaine des Fées. Further on, leave the outbound path from Le Trignon on your left and carry on to the Fontaine des Fées signpost.

No signposting

(6) Turn left onto a small path that leads downhill. It initially heads back upstream, then turns right and runs parallel to the river.

(13) Just before a house, turn left, then right between two fields and reach the start of a path on the left, which forms a hairpin bend.

(14) Take this path and wade across the river. After the embankment, turn right then left to walk alongside a vineyard plot. Continue along this path, passing other vineyard plots, until you reach a fork.

(15) Take the path on the right, head uphill to a road (Chemin de Lencieux) and follow it to the right.

Yellow markings

(16) After a large farm (Pallières), turn onto the path on the left. Ignore a track on the left and continue uphill.

(17) After a hairpin bend to the left, the track turns right. Leave it and take the path on the left. Continue along the main path to the Chapelle Saint-Côme.

(18) Cross the D229 (Route des Florets) with care, and take the path opposite which joins the Chemin de Saint-Côme. Follow it as far as Rue de la Libération.

(1) Return along Rue Eugène Raspail, following the route in reverse to the Bacchus car park (S/E).
