Schelmenkopf – Col des Bagenelles

(S) From the refuge, head straight ahead to find a wide path on the left marked with a Blue Triangle. This path is almost level and well shaded; it leads easily to the Croix de Ribeauvillé.

(1) Now follow the Yellow Rectangle markings of the GR®532 uphill. You’ll reach a rest area at the crossroads above the hamlet of Adelspach.

(2) Continue straight ahead, still on the GR®, and follow a steady climb to reach the Tertre de la Fille Morte.

(3) Leave the GR® here and take the third horizontal path on the left, known as the ‘Sentier horizontal’ and marked with a Green Triangle. Continue along this path for a long stretch. Pass beneath the Petit Brézouard, then carry on until you emerge onto the stubble fields of the Haïcot near the Refuge des Amis de la Nature Haycot.

(4) Follow the Red Rectangle markings of the GR®5 to the left, then turn right at the memorial stone, pass in front of the former Haïcot inn, and then begin a long descent to reach the Col des Bagenelles (E), today’s stage.

After (4): the former Haïcot inn was a dairy run by the Anabaptist community, who later went into exile to found the Amish.
