(S/E) From the terrace of the refuge, climb up the steps alongside the building, close the electric fence behind you and climb up the track, passing the chapel on your left after the left-hand bend, until you reach a flat area. Directional signpost, orientation table, cross.
Yellow and red markings for the Tour du Canigou and Tour du Vallespir
(1) Continue straight ahead along the slightly uphill track. You will soon reach the junction of three tracks at Cal Picotós de Baix. Directional signpost.
(2) Continue straight ahead, uphill, on the upper track. Further on, you will reach a large flat area at Coll de Baixó. Directional signpost.
Off the marked trail
(3) You can go straight to Coll d'Serre Vernet (yellow and red signs) and keep following the directions.
- Continue opposite, north, on the re-calibrated track (observed in early July 2025). Continue climbing until you reach an enclosure across the track. Look for the yellow signpost on the post on the right before the enclosure.
Sparse yellow markings.
(4) Go through the steel gate and close it behind you. Climb up to the left on a path that is not very visible at first, then rejoin a very good, well-marked path that climbs into the forest.
(5) Leave the path leading to the Cabane de la Jasse des Troncasses (yellow cross). Look for the next signpost and turn left onto the very pretty path. Continue climbing until you reach an avalanche barrier. These structures are remarkable and necessary given the steep slope.
(6) Climb slightly to the right to cross this area. There is a fence that must be closed behind you. Pass a wet area with a large steel trough (observed in early July 2025). You will eventually reach the wider, more clearly marked GRP® trail.
Yellow and red markings Tour du Canigou
(7) Turn completely right and join the Coll de Serre Vernet (elevation 1798).
Yellow and red markings Tour du Vallespir
(8) Turn left, heading south and climbing slightly, to see the markings on a tree at the edge of the forest. Continue following the markings and you will come to a clearing (passed the day before). There is a large cairn on the left and yellow and red markings on a tree opposite.
(9) Leave the large cairn on your left and continue straight ahead, heading south, along the GRP®. The well-marked trail emerges from the beech forest at times, offering views of a beautiful wooded landscape. Much further on, after a short descent, you will come to an open area at Coll de Comella (elevation 1,557 metres). There is a signpost. Unfortunately, the PR® to follow is not indicated.
Look for the yellow markings and follow them carefully
(10) You can reach Coll del Miracle directly via Faig Cintat (yellow and red markings) and continue following the description.
Caution: ignore the yellow arrows that encourage you to climb up the opposite slope, as well as a poor path starting on flat ground heading south into the forest.
- Look for the yellow markings indicating a well-marked path heading south-southeast into the forest. After about 100 metres, the pretty path begins to descend gently. Much further on, you will arrive at a clearing in an old pasture. There is a strangely placed signpost and wooden signs stuck in a tree on the left. Continue for about 50 metres. There is another signpost.
(11) You can also go directly to Cabanelles, which you passed the day before (yellow markings), and continue to Prats-de-Mollo.
Turn completely right, aiming for another wooden signpost about 40 metres away.
Continue north-west, on flat ground on the correct path, then descend westwards, on a gentle slope. This will take you to a track suitable for vehicles.
(12) Follow it to the right, climbing slightly for about 400 m, and you will reach a fork. Recent signposts (observed in early July 2025).
Yellow and red markings for the Tour du Vallespir and white and red markings for the GRT83 for a few metres!
(13) Leave the track, descend to the left for about 30 metres on a wide path and arrive at a fork in three paths.
(14) You can go right to the oratory and back, a 500-metre round trip.
- Continue straight ahead on the GRT83 - GRP® Tour du Vallespir. Pretty soon, the path along the mountainside offers beautiful views.
(15) Cross a track. Further on, the trail becomes more of a path and leaves the forest. Then continue straight ahead, south-south-east towards the small road. Pass a mini cattle grid and you will immediately come out onto this road.
(16) Follow it to the right for about 400 m and arrive at Mas de la Vidala on the left at the side of the road.
(17) Take care. Go down to the left, between the road and the house. First go down a few steps, then follow a wide, shaded path. Do not join the road. Continue the beautiful descent through the terraced gardens on either side of the path. You will arrive much lower down on a larger road facing a wall.
(18) Turn left at the foot of the wall on your right. Cross a pretty paved arch bridge over the Còrrec de la Guillema. Go up the paved street on the left and return to the corner of the cemetery you passed on the first day.
(19) Turn right and enter the old town and its walls. Turn left and then right, and descend a cobbled street with steps to the central square of Prats-de-Mollo. Here you will find shops and refreshments.
(20) Continue left, heading east, towards the large entrance gate to the fortified town.
(21) Turn right and cross the road bridge over the Tech, then right again and downhill to the car park (E).
