Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses - Grand Saint-Bernard Hospice

An easy warm-up walk in preparation for a 3/4 tour of Les Combins. From the car park located after Saint-Rhémy, in a hairpin bend at an altitude of 1,730 m, coming from Saint-Rhémy-en Bosses, on Route 27 of the Col du Grand Saint-Bernard. The route follows the Via Alpina Red R117.

Description of the walk

Depart from the car park located at a hairpin bend on the SS27 road, about 1.5 km after the village of Saint-Rhémy when coming from Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses.

(S) From the car park, head north and follow the Via Alpina Red R117. Climb in a north-westerly direction and reach the pass road at the hamlet of Fontintes.

(1) Cross the road and continue along the Via Alpina trail. You will reach the pass road again. N.B. Here, the trail is marked Tour des Combins Stage 8 on the Italian map.

(2) Continue north-northwest on the Tour des Combins - Tour du Saint-Bernard trail. Then head east and rejoin the road for the third time at the exit of a tunnel.

(3) Cross the road and take the path running parallel to it. Pass above the customs post and reach the Grand Saint-Bernard Hospice (E).
