To reach the start, coming from Nyons or Montélimar, head towards Bourdeaux on the D538 and turn left onto Chemin des Vitroullières, towards “Les Vitrouillères”. Ignore Chemin de Chamonix on the right, then turn left immediately afterwards and you will soon reach the Vitrouillères car park on Chemin des Plattes.
(S/E) Join Chemin des Vitrouillères, turn left and head for the entrance to the Hutopia campsite.
(1) Continue along Chemin de Saint-Maurice, go through the barrier and follow the path towards the valley or Ravin de Saleras.
(2) Ignore the track branching off to the right and head north along the valley floor, which gradually climbs. You’ll reach a fork in the path.
(3) Take the path on the right and walk through a pretty beech forest. After passing a hairpin bend, you’ll reach the track that leads to the pylons.
(4) Follow this track to the left, heading west, until you reach the crossroads by the chapel (Carrefour des Trois Pins).
(5) Continue straight on for a return trip to the pylons (about an hour).
(6) After enjoying the spot, return along the same route to the Carrefour des Trois Pins.
(5) On your return, take the path on the left heading north-east, which enters the woodland and leads back to the chapel.
(7) Continue along the summit section (south-southeast) via a less marked path through the woodland, pass the summit (939m) and then descend to a path on the right.
(8) Continue along the ridge path (south-south-west). After a few metres, ignore a path branching off to the left; continue straight ahead and you will soon reach a viewpoint on a rock to the left of the path.
(9) Turn back and return to the start of the path on the left (ignore the first one on the right).
(8) Take the path on the left which descends westwards to the forest track near the exit of the valley.
(4). Turn left, follow this track southwards to the edge of the woods and quickly take the path through the undergrowth on the right, heading west.
(10) This leads to the first hairpin bend on the track; take the path on the right which leads to a small meadow on the edge of the ridge, above the valley. Continue downhill, south-south-west, cutting across two more hairpin bends, and rejoin the track at a bend where there is a path opposite.
(11) Continue along this path to the right, heading north-north-west, and rejoin the path taken at the bottom of the valley.
(2) Return to the start of the hike via the same route (S/E).
!! The return between (2) and (1) is a little tedious. (Oh yes, we did it in the opposite direction to the sign to get the descent between (5) and (2), which is too difficult going uphill.
