Start at Solières church
(S/E) From the church, walk down the street. At the end, turn left, then almost immediately right (you’ll pass a beautiful old farmhouse-castle) and follow the main road. At the crossroads on leaving the village, turn right and at the next crossroads, turn left onto Rue de Mavelin, which runs straight ahead. Continue straight on and enter the woods for about 100 m.
(1) Take the “public” path on the left. After crossing a small stream, the path runs alongside it as it descends. After another fording, the path begins to run alongside the Solières stream at a distance. When you reach a wider path, continue to the right, still following the stream. The path leads to the hairpin bend of a wide track.
(2) Turn right (at an acute angle) to cross the stream via a small footbridge made of concrete blocks. Immediately afterwards, at the Y-junction, take the path on the right which climbs gently, then more steeply. At the top, at a junction with several paths, take the one veering slightly to the left (the only authorised path at this point). Follow this public path to the main road (the path can be muddy at times).
(3) Immediately enter the meadow on the left through a small gate. A few dozen metres further on, look out for a very narrow path leading into the woods on the right. Follow this path, which is sometimes a little overgrown, and exit the woods through a gate and a barrier. Head down towards a pylon, then continue straight down to a road, which you take to the right. When this road bends to the right, carry on straight ahead along the dirt track. Do not head towards the farm; stay on the track which bends to the left. Immediately after a second sharp bend to the left, ignore a track on the right and continue straight ahead along a straight path.
(4) This path descends gently at first, then more steeply. When you reach a Y-junction at the bottom, do not go down to the left into the stream’s ravine but continue along the path overlooking it. You will come to a wider path which you take to the right, passing in front of a white house (known as ‘la Poudrerie’)
(5) Turn right onto a wide gravel path and cross the Solières stream via a bridge 400 m further on. Turn left, then immediately right onto an uphill path. Continue along the main path, which curves sharply to the left.
(6) Begin a steeper climb, then continue straight on along the sunken track at the Y-junction a little further on. If it is very muddy, where possible, climb up the left-hand embankment to avoid the mud. Stay on the main track for a long while, ignoring all side tracks. On leaving the woods, you will come to fields and meadows.
(7) Take the path on the right after a house, then ignore a path running perpendicular to it and take the left fork at the Y-junction a little further on. The gravel path begins a long descent and then turns sharply right at a 90° angle.
(8) Leave the gravel path at this right-hand bend and take a small path on the left, running alongside a stream flowing through a small ravine (Ruisseau de Ben). Continue to the road (Rue de la Sarte à Ben).
(9) Turn left, then 400 m further on, let the road turn left at a 90° angle and continue straight ahead along a grassy path that climbs up alongside a field. When you reach a road, cross it and follow the small path slightly to the right, which leads into the woods, until you reach the crossroads of paths in the woods.
(10) Take the path on the far right (not the one going downhill). Follow this path straight on to the end. It becomes a road after the woods and joins a crossroads.
(11) Turn left (Rue du Ruisseau); the road descends to cross the Ruisseau de Solières. A few dozen metres after the bridge, look out for a small path that branches off sharply to the right.
(12) Head between a few houses, then go uphill. Turn right at the end to reach the church of Solières (S/E).
