Notes

* The Vallespir Community of Municipalities informs us that the trail between Pic des Salines and Coll dels Cireres is closed. This is due to the owner of the land in this area wishing to create a private hunting reserve and therefore prohibit access.
Trail information 66

From Céret, in the town centre, pass in front of the sub-prefecture and follow the signs for Fontaine de Fonfreda (D13f). The road is winding and narrow, so caution is advised. After about 9 kilometres (from the sub-prefecture), you will arrive at an open area called Pla Bulat (640 m) where you will see a hunter's hut on your right, in a meadow. There are also signposts and markers.

It is possible to start the hike from higher up between (S/E) and (4).

Water is available at the Fontfreda (France) and Salines (Spain) fountains.

This is a mid-mountain area. So, as you would expect, you will need: rain gear, water, snacks, route map, description, map, GPS, camera, good walking shoes and possibly a walking stick.
Note: avoid hiking in strong winds.
This hike requires a minimum level of fitness, as some sections are steep.
Be careful of snow or ice on the north-facing slope from (5) to (10).

Variations:
The hike can start from the points (1) or (4), which are accessible by car.
At (7), you can descend directly to Les Salines or continue along the ridge to (15).

A lovely little hike that I think deserves a few details.

- No breathtaking scenery, but a good compromise given its proximity to Perpignan, the site remains fairly wild (even if the foxes that come to see you are nice, it's mainly because people do whatever they want).

- I was able to do the route in the opposite direction without any problems (see "no entry" signs in the description), I didn't see any signs or anyone to stop me.

- Important though: don't go there for a spiritual retreat... I started the hike surrounded by hunters and their dogs, planning to spend the night at the saltworks refuge. Twelve people and two dogs "allowed" me to come in because I was alone. They were all Spaniards who had come by car and were shouting, smoking and grilling meat for a loooong time. I was sleeping up high, which was great, especially for reading ^^ The downside, however, was that it was over by 10.30 p.m. I joined them for a while to play some music and it was still fun despite everything... even if they don't mind laughing and talking loudly in the middle of the night or early morning. According to them, they come here often, so... you've been warned!

- One last thing, I'll change the difficulty level from "very difficult" to "difficult".

There was snow and the markings were not very visible in the scree at Roc de la Frausa, so it is essential to have the GPX track from Visorando.

A very beautiful hike, starting in holm oak trees, then in beautiful chestnut groves, with a superb view of the Pic des Salines.
The path taken by escapees from France is of historical interest and can be seen on the internet.

Please note that this is a long hike with a significant elevation gain, which justifies its classification as difficult!

Beautiful hike, well marked, 360° view from the Pic des Salines, over the Roussillon plain, Rosas Bay and Canigou.

We did this hike in reverse, first climbing up to Les Salines, then following the ridge and descending via the GR trail to make the most of the midday sun.
There was a little snow above 1,000 metres. The section between Le Moixer and the junction with the GR 10, which is supposed to be marked in yellow, was disastrous, as the markings must be at ground level, covered by the little snow, and the path was no longer visible between the rocks - yet there are trees and high rocks where the markings could be seen, even with a little snow. So there were no visible markings on the most difficult and dangerous part of the route.
Sorry to talk about the markings, but I don't have a GPS or smartphone and have been hiking for 40 years with IGN maps and map extracts taken from the internet, so I need markings when the path is not obvious in the terrain and when, on my IGN map, I choose a marked route "for peace of mind" and therefore haven't printed out large-scale maps.

Superb panoramic views of Canigou and the snow-capped mountain range. No regrets about doing it, despite the difficult part, a real dream with the snow.

A very beautiful hike.
We did a "short" and less strenuous version, starting at point 4 (which can be reached by car) and following the ridge from point 7 to point 12 (as you specify in the practical information).
This version is moderately difficult, making the hike very accessible.
Sublime views of Roussillon and Spain – what a pleasure to walk along the border!
