Description of the walk

(S/E) From the Chalet Edelweiss, follow the access path uphill, cross the Route des Crêtes and continue for 20 metres. Turn right onto theGR®®5path (Red Rectangle), heading towards the Grand Ballon.
The path continues uphill, running parallel to the Route des Crêtes. Most of the route takes you through beech forests of varying density.

(1) At Moorfeld, cross the Route des Crêtes and take the forest track below for about 200 metres, then turn left onto the path known as ‘Kapitaenstressla’ (Red Rectangle).

(2) Leave the ridge again to go round the Storkenkopf via the southern slope until you reach the Haag Farm.

(3) Cross the Route des Crêtes and turn left onto theGR®®532path (Yellow Rectangle) leading towards Moorfeld to join theGR®®5(Red Rectangle) at the Route des Crêtes. Return to the junction passed at the start of the walk.

(1) The return to the Chalet Edelweiss (S/E) follows the same path as on the way there, but in the opposite direction.

A very beautiful route, especially the Kapitanstressla, which is superb.
We searched a bit in Haag, but the yellow rectangle only says "Lac du Ballon".
which is a bit ambiguous, and we got a bit stressed when we saw a big descent, knowing that we had to follow the ridge road.

A lovely little walk with beautiful views... To make them even more beautiful, I suggest climbing up to Storkenkopf via the unmarked path behind the Haag farmhouse inn: take the wide, steep path until you reach the low wall that marks the ridge line: follow the wall northwards to reach the highest point. Return to the point where you found the low wall and take the descent towards Morfeld via the small path – about 30 cm wide – heading west towards the ridge road.

Path running parallel to the ridge road, not great but otherwise a pleasant route.

Much of the hike follows the road, which makes this part unpleasant. Otherwise, it's a pleasant walk.

On the day of the first snowstorm of the season, I left Haag via the red rectangle trail in order to do the route in reverse. For the same reason, when I reached Moorfeld, I took a shortcut and rejoined the yellow rectangle trail on the right for the return journey. This saved me half an hour and, more importantly, avoided exposure to strong winds.
